I swore that UMD must have gotten this from The Onion. Anyways, UMD is also in a pretty shady, crime ridden area in Maryland called College Park, which is in Prince George's County. I doubt any sane person would want to attend that college unless they really placed great emphasis on BS U.S. News and Scam Report rankings.
You need to get a job at U of M for their version of this class. The students could do research and work for you as homework. Plus, the school will provide tons of blog material. Of course getting past HR might be tricky.
You're not really surprised are you Cappy? I think it would be HILARIOUS to put a hardcore right wing blogger like you or Aurini through this course just to see what the instructors would say.
Economically, they're responding to the market. Somebody is stupid enough to pay for it, so why not offer it?
I can't help feeling sorry for both sides of that transaction though. Actually, all sides, including us, the taxpayer, who have to subsidize the loans.
That's capitalism, sort of. If you can persuade young fools to spend their (borrowed) money on this class, more power to you.
My ex, a middle-school math teacher, was asked to teach some three-week "special topics" courses on "anything she wanted." She chose a survey of 1960s Motown (and similar) music. The kids loved it. No one complained. And that's how your education tax dollars were spent that year.
Jesus F---ing Christ....It makes me wretch! Idiots. Who the f would pay THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS for this? It is probably taught by some burnt out hipster with a faux turtleneck and limp handshake.
Most precious lines from the course description:
"NB: No technical skill, including HTML encoding, is assumed or necessary."
After much digging, I find that this class costs a Maryland Resident just $1113.65 or $3,410.99 if your out of state (tuition and fees only) and as near as I can tell, what your purchasing is your first four followers (counting the instructor). Even Better you can repeat it 3 times - how cool is that.

Epic fail.
Wha?????
ReplyDeleteWhat does a credit hour cost at Maryland? Good grief - this is an intelligence test; people who take that class fail.
Modern day snake oil salesmen. If you buy their product you have no one to blame but yourself.

ReplyDeleteHehe, shades of your crack earlier today, but at least it isn't an entire major... yet.
ReplyDeleteNo technical skill, including HTML encoding, is assumed or necessary....
ReplyDeleteOf course not! Why do something useful?
That was quick. Did you search for blogging classes after yr last post?
ReplyDeleteCollege credit for EW! Heh, I'm there!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least you called it.
ReplyDeleteWell, if they are going to read Cass Sunstein, everything will definitely be roses.
ReplyDeleteErm... You called it Captain in your little bit about Bloggers' Mistake.
ReplyDeleteYou know... You should ask the tart to reference and recommend you. Might result in a shitload of new fans.
When life starts to imitate parody, you just know in your bones that civilisation is comprehensively screwed.

ReplyDeleteDo you ever get tired of being so prescient in the exact path the decline will happen?

Exactly.
ReplyDeleteNote the blogs that will be explored in the course. All left wing, of course. Not even a pretense of political objectivity.
