Last fall I just shook my head and laughed at the MN morons voting that pathetic puke, Dayton, into office. They're getting what they deserve, but it makes me sad in a way. I have many friends still taking it in the ass over there and wish they could escape, as well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8358039.post-6369898041211028992011-09-02T10:47:51.565-07:002011-09-02T10:47:51.565-07:00Minnesota's not as liberal as it used to be. ...Minnesota's not as liberal as it used to be. We came just 8,800 votes shy of electing our first truly conservative Governor. If only the media didn't do everything in it's power to cover for Dayton's extreme mental illness and alcoholism while allowing a Dayton money smear campaign to go unchecked, we'd have Governor Emmer today. The multinational F2...Cap, as usual you are right. The multinational F20 corporation I work for has about 50% of its space in Rochester occupied. Yes, the workforce has been cut in half in the last ten years.

With all the space available here, I asked several high-level managers why the company can't use the space by bringing more work here. The answers were revealing.

It comes down to the cost of doing business in the state. Labor costs and taxes are high here. Skilled young technical workers are becoming increasingly rare.

The locals hqve looked into leasing the excess space to other companies - but nobody wants it.

Furthermore, MN can't begin to compete when it is cheaper to start a new facility in other states which offer 10 year real estate and tax relief "deals" to the company to provide a certain number of jobs. That's why new facilities in Dubuque IA and Columbia MO were opened and why Boulder CO had a major expansion.

That won't happen here.

Minnesotans don't get it yet. They subsidize undesirable things (through generous welfare benefits, lax law enforcement and sentences, sanctuary cities, low income housing, social promotion in schools, etc.) while punishing desirable things like making things, obeying the law, earning money, having personal responsibility, starting businesses, being thrifty, living conservative values, and being self-reliant.

I have way too many pieces of crap that I have to support.

The legions of leeches and under-performers come in droves - the producers, entrepreneurs and successful due to the overhead of the welfare state, onerous taxes and ridiculous regulations and high crime rates are leaving just as fast.

Expanding a business here in MN is a death wish, so is starting one, which I may have to do because being in my upper 50's with 30+ years in my business, I can't possibly learn new things or be innovative or be as productive or energetic as a young buck, even though I out-work, out-think, out-wit and out-deliver them every day.

Hat's off to the Captain for getting out while the getting is good - MN is going down. Let us know where you're heading in SD.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8358039.post-6861903455520946222011-09-01T18:55:58.600-07:002011-09-01T18:55:58.600-07:00So are they called the Golden Gophers because Minn...So are they called the Golden Gophers because Minnesotans know how to make all the gold disappear into holes in the ground?
Bill K.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8358039.post-68014631307085336342011-09-01T18:15:22.376-07:002011-09-01T18:15:22.376-07:00CC,

Also, I heard a guest on a radio program (can't remember which) talking about crime. The host mentioned that Minnesota has a very high recidivism rate. The guest then pointed out it's because the criminal element doesn't leave. They have no incentive to leave. So we have that going for us too. :( I work as an engineer for one of the big companies mentioned in your article.
