Interesting how all the states in the top quintile are all high tax states as well. Looks like high taxation and redistribution of wealth from the rich to the poor is not only good for the soul, but good for the economy as well.
Or it could just be geographic inflation and if you adjust for purchasing power parity (that's "cost of living" for you socialist simpletons) you'd have no correlation.
Besides, if you want to be authentic about it and find out that tax effect on the economy, you'd look at real GSP growth rates and correlate with with state revenues as a percent of GSP over 5, 10, 15 years.
watch Sioux Falls and South Dakota in general. They have no state income taxes and the city of Sioux Falls has an ad campaign to get businesses from the Twin Cities to relocate there.
You have an immense amount of people out there though. And whereas in NYC you need to have money to live there, in LA and SD, you needn't. SF is about the only comparable area.
Enrique, i noticed that your name links to moveon.org - had a quick look.
You've got this "Civic action" against AOL because you believe that the internet is somehow under attack by them?!
Are you people retarded?! If you don't like AOL, don't freakin use them! Anyone who has half a brain that uses AOL would eventually come to the conclusion that they're a sh1te company anyway, and move on (dot org :) to one of the thousands of other ISPs available.
OMG! AOL iz attaking teh interweb coz they pwn it and i dun liek teh bastrds! sing teh petishon duh!
Can't believe that site has got such a good Alexa rank and Google PageRank...

But then again, this would be over your head.
Now if I can just pull in my Minnesota income while living in a lowest quintile state. :)
