For example, in 2005, the comparative level of output per person employed in Venezuela was 42 per cent of the United States level, compared to 77 per cent in 1980.
Now, I think it's foolhardy to call for someone's head, but the only reason he's still in power is that during his tenure as president oil has risen from $18 a barrel to just over $70. This is THE ONLY REASON he is still in power.
that if somebody comes into power and tells them what they want to hear, then that person will stay in power.
Forget about standards of living (because in Venezuela, until two years ago, they had gone down under Chavez), people like to hear a guy up there saying, "It's not your fault you're poor. It's rich people's fault and the West."
Same thing with FDR and the Great Depression. He's a hero in American history, but by every standard he failed miserably to stop the Great Depression and did nothing practical to alleviate it. Bush would be crucified if it was him. Regardless, FDR wasn't massacred because he told people what they wanted to hear.
Yes, your economy is in the dumper, you get Jimmy Carter to rubber stamp your corrupt election, and then the price of oil skyrockets. You then are able to play the Great Socialism Greed Card(tm) in that all the rich people get rich, and the poor people stay poor. You then leverage your new found wealth to buy the next election by propping up the underclass by subsidising everything (healthcare, the price of gasoline, food, etc).
The price of oil is the only reason he's is still in power. His socialist agenda of class and wealth warfare might have brought him to power, but oil is what has kept him there.
With any luck someone will put a bullet in this little prick's head so they can replace him!

Actually, I will disagree. I think people are

2. Envious enough
