I don't know how to spell it, and am too lazy to spell check it, but I must admit to some economic schadenfreude.
The book is now complete and will be going into last revisions and editing. Picking a publisher and then getting some chartage.
Regardless, this puts me in an odd situation in that the book will do better the worse the economy gets. And as long as press releases like this keep coming, I'm happy.
Schadenfreude is correct. Now Germans have their Schadenfreude because their banking system appears to be more stable than the American. Of course, they don't realize that most German banks are state-owned and are forbidden to do any risky business.
ReplyDeleteOf course I'll buy the hardback and buy the author a stiff drink to get it signed as a signature piece for my library collection, but is there any way to get an advance copy for some summer reading?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the book! Do you have a title yet? I don't remember if you posted one or not.
ReplyDeleteWhy aren't you self publishing? I've heard that while you may sell far less copies, you keep a far, far greater percentage of the profits.
ReplyDeleteall correct gentlemen.
ReplyDeleteEnrique, yes absolutely going to self publish. I'm relying on my contacts in radio and my relatively decent blog presence to advertise it. And as you surmise you don't have to sell 1 million copies to make some money. What I've seen and what Bucktown has said is about $5-$7 a book, which means if I just sell 10,000 (the goal) I should be in decent shape for 4 months work.
Bill I will look forward to the stiff drink and will gladly sign the book for a stiff drink ( I should work that in somehow that I'll sign it for a drink, may never have to pay for drinks again. ;) It will probably be paperback, just as I'm trying to keep the price affordable.
If you want Bill, I can e-mail you a copy of a couple chapters to whet your appetite. I'm putting it through it's final revisions/edits, then Bucktown does the final edit. I set up the corporation to ensure no pissy bankers decide to sue, and then off to publishing it goes.

Yes, it's titled "Behind the Housing Crash: Confessions from the Inside"

ReplyDeleteAs for web marketing, if you get it on Glenn Reynolds' reading list at Instapundit, you've got it made. Also if some of your friends that have blogs like Carpe Diem or Greg Mankiw's blog could do the favor, that works. Also Consumerist.com would be a good place since their schtick is exposing consumer ripoffs and problems.
ReplyDeleteA short (entertaining) video on youtube certainly wouldn't hurt. From your radio show, you certainly have the talent for that.
One of the great things about the internet is the cheap ways of marketing stuff.
Good luck with the book. You have friends here that will be happy get the word out.
OK, that sounds like a good deal. If I promise various websites and blogs an autographed copy they put it on the site.
ReplyDeleteMarty, you are indeed a St. Cloud genius.
And the idea for a You Tube video. That has potential. I'll have to put something together.
Cpt.
Yeah, make sure you are protected from any bankers deciding to sue you.
