Your beloved Captain got a job in a no-income-tax state. More on that later.
But the funny thing about moving is all the old stuff you rediscovered when deciding what to take with you and what to through away. Namely, you unpack the boxes you boxed up the past 3, 4, 7 times you've moved and never unpacked them to see what you have.
I have old notebooks from college, old tax returns, but one precious item I found (and summarily thought I had lost) was a signed copy of the book "St. Mudd."
The book wasn't signed by Steve Thayer, the author, but rather "Jackie Rocket" the premiere dominatrix in the Twin Cities at the time. She got it as a gift for me over a decade ago.
"Captain, you are a different type of gangster and saint." it read.
Of course at the time I was dating her I literally didn't know she was the premiere dominatrix in the Twin Cities at the time, but that is a different story as well.
Regardless I strongly recommend the book St. Mudd. It is one of the few books I've read and it is even one of the fewer books I liked.
Besides, what else are you going to do but enjoy the decline?
Washington State is good. It has no state income tax. The coast has a benign climate and lots of natural beauty. Lots of outdoor sports are available (mountain climbing, wind and kite surfing, scuba diving, etc.). I recommend Vancouver, WA. It is slightly warmer than Seattle in the winter and is much cheaper. It is right next to Portland, which means you get to enjoy the benefits of the social culture of lefty-land without having to pay for it in taxes.
ReplyDeleteYou're becoming a taxpayer? For shame.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Heading to someplace in SoDak? Back in banking?
ReplyDeleteCongrats. SD?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your escape from MN. So what's the destination?
ReplyDeleteThe Cvaptain has a job! Congrats I guess.
ReplyDeleteIt pays money and stuff?
Soon we'll be hearing you are married, have a mortgage anda dog with a child on the way ( AI a wonderful thing).
Jobs are the gateway drug you know.
Moving to a no income tax state?
ReplyDeleteI do not see Delaware on your radar scope, but Texas and Alaska are pretty much right up your alley.
Moving is a pain in the A$$ but you are correct, it is amazing the stuff you will find when you pack/unpack.
Congrats on the job and the move. Try to keep the column running. I need my Cappy fix at least twice a week.
Ha Ha...Washington state? S. Dakota? I don't think so. They don't have any money and the women are dogs. Alaska? Yep, they got money and a few cuties kinda cold though, how 'bout Tejas? We've got the most money, the prettiest women, fastest horses, biggest guns, toughest men, lots of conservative armed service men and women ready to defect to the sovereign nation of Texas once we secede and we routinely tell government agencies to go fuck themselves.
ReplyDeleteWe're hiring too so this is probably his destination. Now playing Lyle Lovette, "That's Right You're Not From Texas" (but Texas loves you anyway)
Post comment here-
ReplyDeleteToo all the leftist trolls who go for the obvious;
"You don't read much. Huh. That explains a lot."
understand I don't read a lot of books for fun.
I've read plenty of textbooks, economics books, financial and economic reports.
Matter of fact, I probably read more non-fiction than you do, which is why your best response is "heh, you don't read much. Explains a lot. durrrr."
This concludes the rapid shooting down of your lame argument.
Something you might want to read is this http://www.optimist123.com/optimist/2009/07/austrians-vs-keynesians-the-scoreboard.html
ReplyDeleteDidn't mean to be so snarky. I just want to point out that it was people who majored in finance and economics who got us into this mess. They thought up brilliant mathematical models that just took for granted that housing prices could only go up. Maybe they should have read some books on economic history-or is history a useless subject too?
I enjoy your blog and learn a lot from it. Even like your attitude most of time. Best wishes.
A real job? With a real employer? Captain....have you gone conventional !! What's next? Baking lessons and dachshund?
ReplyDeleteWa state is a socialist hellhole, Seattle is worse and Portland even worse than Seattle.
ReplyDeleteNo chance the cap'n would be so foolish.
Well Captain, if the company that's hiring you has read your blog and still hires you, then it's got to be a great company to work for! The ones who would not like your blog are the ones you wouldn't want to be associated with anyway.
ReplyDeleteActually, I'm finding more and more banks (now that they've all posted losses, let alone some have been taken over by the feds via cease and desist orders) are more receptive to somebody who is a straight shooter and not a con man. Of course, also a lot of BHC's and owners of banks are sick and tired of losing money and are finally finding it high time to replace their managerial ranks. But I could be wrong.
