"Feeling" is for children and the naive elementary school teacher types who can't do math and don't like the real world
"Thinking" is for college students too lazy to look up facts on their latest Apple product with the insane amount of empirical evidence that is available to them.
"Knowing" is for responsible adults.
"I don't think. I know."
ReplyDelete"I don't think you know either!"
- The Three Stooges
Speech experts always say to use the word "feel" instead of "think", because no one wants to hurt feelings, but everyone thinks of his own opinions.
ReplyDeleteI use "think" when I want to come off as aggressive. That is to say, always.
But Caaaaaap...knowing takes evidence, and getting evidence is haaaaaarrrrd....
ReplyDeleteSince most words now are nothing but figures of speech, it doesn't really matter which ones are used. The proposition that one leads his remarks with "I think", "I feel", or "I know" does not change the content, context or accuracy of the remark in any way.
ReplyDeleteLike saying, "in my opinion". It is irrelevant extra words.
Bear in mind this was an English press report about Quebec. They dialed down the tone, in an attempt to not offend French Canadians.
ReplyDeleteCorruption in Quebec is endemic. Everyone living in Quebec understands corruption is just a part of life.
However, in today`s politically correct universe, even factual information can be considered offensive.
Truth is offensive. You shouldn't even be allowed to think about truth. It just confuses things. What has truth ever done for you?
ReplyDelete@ Anon 10:25: If you have had any sales training you would know that they teach you to ask people how they feel about that, to try and rely on emotive selling points and to above all avoid mentioning the word think or doing anything that might engage the person's rational mind. Its just like politics. And it makes you feel very dirty.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I'm an engineer and not a salesman. My dad was a legendary salesman, could've sold sand to the Saudis. I got my sales genes from my mom.
