"Founded in 1883, the university has grown from a single building, eight teachers, two departments and 221 students to a 350-acre main campus with 17 colleges and schools, about 24,000 faculty and staff, and more than 50,000 students."
That's nearly one faculty/staff per student, plus all the newer buildings that still need to be paid for. Insane.
Massive overspending on sports, facilities, extra admin staff. The schools have an incetive to bloat as much as possible. I actually got to have a one on one with a major uni president who told me flat out they raising tuition because other schools were. The schools don't give a damn about the students, they already paid.
Let me guess. Way too many majors (especially liberal arts. 100 of them? You've got to be kidding!) that are sucking the taxpayer dollars right up. Too many degrees being handed out in this worthless stuff.
Thanks for writing such an excellent blog, Aaron. It reminds me of everything Peter Schiff has been saying for many years but aimed towards a younger audience. I'm taking a gap year right now and starting college next year, but I've really woken up to the leftist indoctrination that pervades throughout modern universities now and almost wanted to do a useless liberal arts major. Now I'm either going to get into accounting or computer engineering.
"I bet 80% of staff are "secretaries." Totally unnecessary personnel, just hired to keep up diversity quotas." Absolutely. The number of worthless employees at colleges has grown exponentially, while faculty have grown linearly in numbers.
Perhaps you are referring to the ratio of staff to students?
ReplyDelete1 faculty/staff member for every 2 students?
ReplyDeleteOk 50,000 students and 24,000 staff is one hell of a lot of staff.
ReplyDelete100 different majors in 140 fields of study is frankly a lot - there has to be a lot of non-useful majors in that number.
24,000 staff and only 50,000 students. someone's facing the wrong way.

Yeah, that figure ought to be closer to 2500 staff for 50000 students.
