What I found most egregious about this article (linked by Instapundit, wasn't it?) is that the entire rambling mess could have been 3 short sentences 'I was rude to a stranger on a plane. I am very self-conscious about my weight. Airplane coach seats aren't very big.' The end. Seriously, this is what passes as writing these days?
Be of good cheer, Aaron! Type II diabetes awaits Lindy West. Diabetes knows nothing of political correctness. Diabetes is NOT NICE. Oh yes, she will probably only lose ten years from her lifespan, but they will be troublesome years; nervous years; years spent sticking things into herself, such as glucometer needles and insulin needles. Years without wine, or candy, indeed any one of the numerous foods with a high glycemic index. She will learn all about the glycemic index.
Wow, I find most women attractive. To be attractive, one shouldn't have a personality like a stinging jellyfish. Man-o-War Lindy West is best avoided with a 10 foot pole. Yuck.
Anonymous at 12:04 doesn't know the half of it. Type II diabetes kills the capillaries throughout the body. If in the brain, dementia. Eventually, in the kidneys, leading to a new lifestyle: dialysis several times a week. If in the toes (a usual place) necrosis and amputation. If in the legs, swelling, incredible itching or pain, eventual necrosis, gangrene, and amputation. This could be Lindy West: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1309609/The-cruel-cost-ignoring-diabetes-Jane-lost-arm-legs-disease-like-didnt-seriously.html Jane is lucky - she is still alive. 30% of diabetics with leg amputation die immediately and the five-year survival rate is only 30%.

ReplyDeleteShe will not enjoy her life at all.

Lindy West is not a blond but she is fair. The traditional gallbladder patient is "fair, fat, forty, fertile, and female."
ReplyDeletePoor Lindy!
