Was shopping. Head this song on over their music system. Tracked it down and found it. One of the best songs I've heard in a long time:
Which leads me to a question:
Has anybody else noticed music really hasn't changed since grunge took over in the 90's?
Great find. Very classy. Got it right away. I'd go right to the singer though. I dunno if they stopped making music after Grunge, I quit before that. You know who I miss? I miss the old angry young man Joe Jackson from his first albums. Underrated (OK, and the Knack)
ReplyDeleteRock/pop hasn't changed for forty years. Then again pottery hasn't changed for a couple of thousand years.

ReplyDeleteCultural and political innovation (and genocide and civil war) only happen during times of instability, when there are too many young people who can't find jobs (during "youth bulges" as named by demographer Gunnar Heinsohn). The last "youth bulge" period in the West was when the Boomers were in their 20s-30s, from the 1960s through the early 1980s.
ReplyDeleteclarey, smart guy, good humor, but this music is waaaaack.
ReplyDeletei do appreciate the relaxing music from the 30s through to the 50s.
but its all about the rock and roll man. hair was the apex of musical expression. and that is a FACT.
I started listening to country in the 90's when it seemed like the songs on the pop and rock stations all sounded exactly alike. Country finally caught up about 10 years later, and I switched back. But that was when I could start putting content on mobile devices anyway, so no more inane DJ chatter and commercials.
ReplyDeleteI called the 90's "The Xerox Decade" because it seemed to me that everything became alike. All the songs sounded alike, all the houses looked alike, the cars looked alike, and you could swap the actors around on the top 5 sitcoms and the plots wouldn't skip a beat.
Because you're looking in the wrong places.
ReplyDeleteHave you heard Bitter:Sweet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VljGLcxA1U and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxhSidauFPU are good choices).
How about Ingrid Lucia & The Flying Neutrinos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FPiSw4X1z8 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iMUCgS4rUM). They were exceptional life way back in 2000.
That's just off the top of my head that I think you'd find interesting based on your posts. There is plenty more (there is one band I'm drawing a blank on the name I think you'd love).
Music is like everything...if you listen to the crap feed you by big companies you're going to get the music equivalent of the HR girls' questions.
Go out on your own and you'd be amazed at what you'd find.
In current heavy rotation for me. I doubt you'll like but I'd argue they are nothing like grunge and all are active today.
