Because it is incredibly beautiful there, the motorcycle riding is unmatched, the surfing is world class, and the weather is tailor made for doing outdoors stuff. Sometimes you just live with the BS in order to have all that.
And while we're on the subject, we aren't nearly as liberal here in Washington as you seem to think. There is a fair amount of liberal BS but we are also an unrestricted open carry state and have "shall issue" concealed carry permits. Every time an anti-gun ballot measure comes up it fails by large margins and most anti-tax ballot measures pass by large margins.
Why? Because it's a beautiful state with a climate that is mostly unmatched in the U.S. Only Florida comes close, and on many days it's waay too humid for some people.
I fear California will never recover, because there will always be people who want to live here. The politicians in this state are so terribly insulated from their own failures because the state is so physically beautiful and has such a mild climate. The only thing we can pray for, as scary as this sounds, is a large swarm of massive earthquakes to make people from the eastern and northern states stop moving here.
Also, that article is filled with blatant lies. I do not live in Torrance, but I do live in on of the surrounding cities. I do not work for Toyota, but I knew they were leaving Southern California a week ago from friends who also do not work for Toyota. The mayor is lying to the public when he says he had no warning, it was a public secret ffs.
In fact, Toyota is so desperate to leave Southern California, that they have made offers to some of their staff that are truly ridiculous. One guy (this is a true story, but admittedly second-hand), has two homes in Southern California, both of which he is underwater on (owes more than they're worth). Toyota is supposedly offering to put him in the black so that he can move to Texas.
THAT IS HOW BAD IT IS for Socialist-California. Toyota is paying off portions of mortgages for employees to get the fuck out of this state.
I swear to god I'm not making this up, and yes, I do live in this town.
And the Mexicans LOVE it there. They pay no taxes, live 2 families to a house that they inherited and get more than enough public assistance to cover their daughter's Quinceanera.
And here in Seattle we have our recently elected socialist council person trying to push a $ 15 minimum wage in Seattle.
It's absolutely flooring because Washingtonians always complain about Californians moving up and fucking up our state, so you would think we would be extra-careful not to repeat California's mistakes.
When I have visited California, all I got was this vibe of entrepreneurship and this sense that you could do anything there. Want to start a company? You really fell like you could do it and pull it off. They may have a lot of leftists and what not, but those people in that state have a strong pioneer spirit going on. I've been all over the east coast and south you don't tend to find that kind of vibe in most of these states. You feel shut out and restricted from any chance of a future.
If it were just climate, why does anyone live in Illinois? Besides the climate in LA is smog, and SF is windy. There are a lot of reasons people might stay but more and more will gradually relocate.

I have been a regular visitor to California for 20 years, but never again. I had a daughter there, whose family owned a business there. Taxes, regulations, and the stupidity of the state government finally convinced them to move back to America. When I visited, all I saw was a thin veneer of self-absorbed pseudo-elites over a thick layer of corruption and exploitation.

Seattle is the capital of moonbattery in Washington. The only reason Washington doesn't scrap shall-issue and open carry is Seattle doesn't quite completely dominate the rest of the state the way Chicago dominates Illinois. Make no mistake, Seattle would ban open and concealed carry in that city if WA didn't have statewide preemption, which Seattle pols have attacked numerous times.
Passing anti-tax ballot measures doesn't matter much because WA's Supreme Court strikes down most of them.
Let's not forget the shameful vote fraud involved in getting Christine Gregoire elected.

Just so you know.

The climate there is nice. And there are a few million people living there. Someone has to sell them overpriced, Fair trade coffee.
ReplyDeleteCalifornia is a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteThe United States should conquer it, sell the socialist natives to the Chinese, and open the now unoccupied land up to homesteading.
