Katherine Byron Meet The Patron Saint Name of Frick

The safe space, Ms. Byron explained, was intended to give people who might find comments “troubling” or “triggering,” a place to recuperate. The room was equipped with cookies, coloring books, bubbles, Play-Doh, calming music, pillows, blankets and a video of frolicking puppies, as well as students and staff members trained to deal with trauma.

I'll say it again.

I will NEVER hire a liberal arts major from any college unless they admit they were idiots and are repentant for being so.

You know, sooner or later, this place will be closing too...................

  2. A "safe space" won't undo something that happened. You move forward, or you don't. Such is life.

  3. I think the "safe spaces" they describe in the article lack a Victorian-style "faint-couch". Though a video of "frolicking puppies" can be quite endearing. And the play-do. Are we in kindergarten here?

I mean, God forbid, if you don't like a public event, you might just stay home. Or take a hike in the woods. Nobody is forcing you to go to a talk where you may feel old traumas are starting to haunt you again. If you are serious about it, you will stay away and not make a big deal out of it.

But not these leftists/feminists. Do they have any real friendships? You know, where you also disagree with each other and learn to accept the other person despite your differences. Where you see the human element underneath it all.

Seems academics and leftists are only "friends" with equally brainwashed people. Just zombies that walk the walk that Huffpost and Jezebel define.

It's a shame, because life is so much more than your narrow little East/West coast ivory tower.

  5. Oh gawd. They CAN'T repent, Aaron. Nor can those that encourage them and enable them.

Before my daughter dumped the sciences at a reputable university to take fine arts at a no-name college, we had an epic battle about it. I basically told her everything you put down in your book on worthless degrees and I was winning the argument - until her idiot grandparents (my in laws) decided that I was being mean to my daughter, a bad father...and they had to intervene. They told her that ALL education was GOOD education, and that she had to follow her dreams and the money would follow that. I was just a mean chit head that was undermining my beautiful daughter and they knew better. I just got up and left at that point. Common sense was not going to be involved in this and I knew it.

Today, 5 years after she graduated, she's working as a part time bicycle mechanic and in her spare time she's a gay hipster. She's 30 years old and a poster girl for your book.

My idiotic in laws that encouraged her to take the course and follow her dreams are now seeing what she is...and they FINALLY admitted their culpability in it. Ya know what? It's TOO FUCKING LATE. I told those arseholes that their 30 year old kidult that won't speak to her parents because they're so mean and abusive with that icky 'truth' stuff - isn't worth a hill of beans. She is a degenerate, she's morally, intellectually and financially bankrupt...and the only way she can redeem herself is to start all over again from scratch and go back to school and take something worthwhile. In today's world - that's AT LEAST another $100K and five more years, with five after that to pay everything off.
My in laws are miserable and they realized that I was right, they were wrong...and now their grandchild is pretty much a write off. How do you repent and atone for that?

I say liberal arts grads should be rounded up and forced at gun point to do honest work on chain gangs. Their profs can atone by voluntarily being nailed to a cross and spend 3 days on it.

Once damage like this is done...'sorry' doesn't cut it. For me a liberal arts degree is a red flag on a resume. If I see a grad of gender/women/native studies - that resume gets shredded just to make sure that it is safely discarded.

Same here - daughter 6 years for a C- BS in Fashion Merchandising, midwestern university - fought the battle yearly.
2 years out, back in spare bedroom taking pre-reqs for LVN program - had to take composition, college algebra and statistics - seriously???
Saw the light, got the R.N., doing well, independent - but lots of tuition, fees and living money down the drain.

  8. GF:

See if you can get her talking to you, and when/if that happens, see if she's interested in moving up to automotive mechanics. She can make a lot of money doing that, it will at least be a tiny bit familiar to her as she works on bicycles, (at least they both have wheels! lol) and she can get certifications at her own pace.

The $100k can wait 10 years, until she decides she can/should open her own shop.

    Good luck. :)

  9. It is a sad reflection on campus culture to notice that there is an entire class of majors devoted to teaching students how much they should feel sorry for themselves because they are part of "oppressed groups".

With that being said, what do you consider "liberal arts"? I got my degree in chemistry, which at my university is considered a "liberal arts" degree. But I didn't have to take any liberal indoctrination courses to get it.

  10. I almost passed this post up. I mean...ultra short. However, I saw the article and said...commentary gold. I couldn't have been more right.

So Aaron and Cappy friends, here are my comments on this article. And by the way...I find it odd that liberal rags seem to be on a roll printing more moderate to conservative stories. It's actually a little weird...you know. Anyway...http://nwavecom.com/more-tripe-crap-from-the-sjws/

I was a liberal arts major, at a university of no great esteem. I have a B.A. in Philosophy. And while I agree with you that the degree is itself useless (except that every employer seems to want me to have the sheepskin), I was fortunate in that it taught me HOW to think, not WHAT to think. Indeed, it was what started me away from a lifetime of liberalism, because I was able to analyze the inconsistencies of leftist dogma. I'm not sure I would have ever woken up otherwise.

Still, it would be nice to have skills that are in demand; critical thinking appears to be more unpopular than ever.
