One reason to keep the landline, and Ethernet cables. Cell Phones are annoying. I did not have one for years and finally caved. The reasons being living in a bad neighborhood, and my Google Voice could not dial 911. I realized none of my neighbors would call the police for back up if anything bad happened (shooting, break in, armed robbery, etc.).
I would guess Hoover was the last president out of the private sector as a mining engineer though he did some work in the public sector before becoming president.
