Cappy Rides from Silverton to Ouray to Telluride

Telluride, btw, is oozing pretentious assholes.  I cannot emphasize enough how you should NEVER visit that place unless you want to see rich trust-funders, old hippies (with "EBT Accepted here!" at the farmer's market) and makeup-less women.  I snapped some pictures, turned around, and headed back out to the parts of Colorado where people work for a living.

The dog at the bottom was worthless, but completely lovable.

  1. I couldn't agree with you more. My wife and I wheeled Imogene pass in 1999, and came down into Telluride. Drove right out and never looked back. BTW, same comment for Aspen - nothing but assholes there.

  2. I grew up not far from this area and can confirm about the assholes. Part of it is money, the other part of it is watching their kids get the snot beat out of them in competitive sports for the last 20 years or more by dirt poor mountain kids. Ah the cycle of life.

Should have just stayed in Ouray. Hot springs, decent restaurants, friendly people, peace and quiet. Park the bike for a day and rent a jeep (It's a nice little drinking town with a jeeping problem).
On the back roads it's amazing how exciting life can be at 15 mph.

This might be the prettiest part of Colorado. Welcome back!

  5. Check out the "high plains" of eastern Colorado. Just about all the towns and people in this part of the state are ultra-conservative. And definitely big on "work ethic".

The "high country" of it's remaining western 2/3 are mostly resort towns and tourist traps, with their "natural mineral hot springs" and ski lodges. Very scenic, yes, but also too elitist.
