Yes, It IS That Simple

  1. This man was a pure genius. It saddens me that the truth he speaks is generally disregarded by the ignorant masses. The world needs more Milton Friedman's.

I've watched that probably 30 times over the last few years - and it gets more impressive each time.

  3. That is the first time I have seen that, and I am incredibly impressed. How succinctly logical and precisely on target.

  5. Phil Donahue is one of the most loathsome leftists in America, but I've got to give him credit for not interrupting Friedman while he answered the questions.

Few journalists or talk show hosts today, either conservative or liberal, let a guest finish their sentences. In his later years, Donahue was not so patient and pensive. Here, I actually got the feeling he was listening to Friedman.

It reminds me of that line in "Fight Club":

"When people think you're dying, they really listen to you instead of just waiting for their turn to talk."

The remarkable thing about Donahue's skepticism of capitalism is the glaring example of his own success. He rose up from a lower-middle class background. His father and mother were sales clerks but made sacrifices so he could attended private Catholic school for his primary, secondary, and college education. Do you think he would have been so fortunate going through the Cleveland public school system?

The man and his wife became filthy rich in a capitalist system which rewarded them for nothing more than their looks and ability to speak.

They may have been quite generous in charity with their money but they deprived themselves of no luxuries for the sake of helping even more people in need.

He's yet another example of a limousine liberal. Having worked my own way out of the lower middle class, unemployment, and homelessness, I resent their phony paternalism. Right now the only thing standing between me and a house, retirement savings, and my son's college education are TAXES.
