The Capitalism - Socialism Speech

Howdy All,

I've finally been able to put together the video of my speech "How to Argue Against Socialism and Defend Capitalism"

Only problem is that I cannot find a video sharing service to upload it to that allows for the length and file size of the video. It is 237 MB and 2 hours 10 minutes long.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANY VIDEO SHARING SERVICE THAT WOULD ALLOW ME TO UPLOAD THIS???

Otherwise I will have to just burn it to DVD and mail it out (unfortunately I would have to charge for it to pay for postage and handling).

  1. Google Video has really long videos uploaded to them. Try that out.

    Bittorrent.

You are looking for a particular type of streaming, often referred to as "On Demand" which lets a user start the video at the beginning and not join a stream already in progress.

Filesize is the most important consideration to cost not the runtime of the video. You'll be billed by bandwidth not by video quality. Each user that watches the current video from beginning to end will cost you 270M worth. It's often worth it to degrade video quality to same some bytes.

You have a couple of options that come to mind:

-You could break it up in to 10 minute chunks and youtube it for free.

    -Rent space from Akamai
    http://www.akamai.com/html/technology/products/streaming.html

    -These guys might be cheaper
    http://www.streamingmediahosting.com/

-IF you have a large amount of bandwidth at home you can setup a Do it yourself streaming server without much trouble, and host it yourself. This will greatly limit the number of people who can watch it at the same time.

  8. Cut the video up into 10 to 20 minutes "parts" and post on you tube.

  9. Might I suggest breaking it into 3 or 4 parts, and uploading it to YouTube that way?

What if you broke it down into a dozen smaller videos and posted on Youtube?

What about a bit torrent site or chop it up into smaller segments and post to youtube.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anonymous2:52 PM

You could always divide it into 6 parts and post them on youtube. But otherwise i have no idea.

  13. Filefront.com might be able to take it. Otherwise, if you can find any sort of webserver, you can create a .torrent file that others can use to download the file from there I think.

I know I've downloaded files that size off of megaupload and rapidshare, there are also different web torrents. I don't know if you can upload files that big without a membership though.

  15. Captain,

A number of longer videos get chopped up into segments and posted to youtube. You could, of course, do this, and channels might be useful as well (though I'm not up to speed on their use). Also, torrents are a way to go if you aren't interested in receiving dinero for your efforts. And finally, maybe Mises.org or some other econ-oriented sight could host it.

Whatever you choose, I look forward to watching your video.

  16. Couple of things come to mind - first of all see if you can find something to compress the file a bit. Secondly, most long videos on eg youtube are split into chunks. Find out the maximum mb/time, split thus and lo, it shall be.

You could try seeding a torrent. I will gladly seed for you as well.

  18. Vimeo.com allows you to upload 500 MB per week with no length limit.

However I must admit that you will get much more "play" if you break it into 10 min segments and put it on Youtube.com

Some thoughts not already brought up:

    1) Can you make a brief (5 - 10 min) collection of the highlights as a sales pitch and post that to sites that have the most traffic (e.g YouTube), pointing to where the full length video can be downloaded.

    2) Can you tighten up the presentation and reduce the run time and the file size. Two hours is pretty long.

    3) Another approach would be to do an downloadable audio only podcast with downloadable presentation charts. No video means that the files are smaller and can be downloaded through a slower web connection and doesn't need so much server resources. My company's internal service automatically synchronizes the charts with the audio.
