Represent!
So it seems Captain Capitalism has gone global, minus a presence in Greenland, Antarctica, and Africa...
Or in others words, I've effectively gone global anywhere it matters since the above mentioned areas have no economy to speak of.
Regardless, this was a pretty cool add-in, might want to imbed the code into your web site see where you're getting hits.

Aboslutely Needed to Repost This
OK, one more time here you idiots;
Take this
http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/05/front2453724.9715277776.html
and a little of this
and let's not forget this
Did I forget to mention this?
and mix it all in with a little of this;
is there any wonder why this
is happening?
But you idiots out there think this;
And that this
http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/12/21/arctic.drilling.ap/index.html
is a good thing.
What is it with you leftists and your utter impotence when it comes to understanding
basic economics laws like supply and demand.
Does your desire to be a crusader to defile oil companies trump any inkling you have to
find out what might actually be going on????
Oh, wait, I forgot who I was talking about.
A Much Needed Re-Post 2
A Much Needed Re-Post
Remember, you probably spend more on clothes than you do on gas...or at least the women do.
Shooting Themselves in the Foot
OK, so the primary reason so many illegals are here is because not only do the democrats want them here, but the Republicans will turn a blind eye to them because they are cheap labor.
So when they start protesting, threatening to shut down major US cities and acting more and more like their socialist, over-paid, prone-to-protest American union counterparts...
What incentive are the Republicans and businesses going to have to keep them here?

Who Pays the Bill
My apologies for getting these stats up here late on Tax Day, but you see, Americans spend about 3.6 billion hours a year doing their taxes. I alone I think accounted for 2.3 billion. And truth be known, the marginal utility I derive from spending one additional unit of time on a cute blond exceeds the marginal utility I'd derive from any other activity, thus, to put it in layman's terms, I've also been busy chasing a cute blond.
All that being said, I wouldn't leave you aspiring economists without a little stats for Tax Day.
First, all of you who are so blinded by your hate for GW and envy for other people's wealth that all you can do is regurgitate the same old, "tax cuts benefit only the rich."
Well have a cup of shut the f#ck up and have this fact beaten into your head;
Under GW taxes have gone down for everybody.
Secondly, I'm getting mighty sick and tired of your greedy scum bucket parasites known as "the poor" who think you have it so rough when in reality, you don't pay a freaking dime for any government service if you're in the bottom 60% of income earners. Free roads, free schools, free health care, free defense. Let alone you have the audacity to demand that the rich pay more in taxes.
But then again, of course we all know those on the left aren't concerned as much with facts as they are concerned with coming up with rationalizations (read-lies and falsehoods) to redistribute wealth.
I just wish the left would admit to it.

Terrorists and Leftists Have Something in Common
So I guess with all the calls to the radio show you all wanted this reposted, so here it is. THANKS FOR LISTENING!
When your ego supersedes the truth and the well-being of your fellow man, you got issues. For if I were to bet money on it, I'd say that the instant your desire to advance yourself trumps the rights, livelihood and well-being of others is the instant you have become evil. And nowhere do we see this better displayed than in the two largest drama queens in the world; terrorists and leftists.
Argue as you may that this is slander and rhetoric, but I contend there is a real connection, a bond that the two share and it is an insightful bond for it explains the behavior of both these groups.
I noticed many years ago as a freshman at college that fellow freshmen were looking to join a group. To belong. To have some sort of social network. Now, this would manifest itself in the form of freshmen looking to join fraternities. Perhaps join the student group association for their field of study or join intramural sports.
But what I found particularly disturbing was how many of these freshmen, who never had a day of strife in their lives, who never held down a full time job, never supported themselves nor a family, and in their short 18 years of existence never had any life-forming experience that would make them a wise, experienced adult, would join political groups.
Not that this is a bad thing in itself, but what I found ironic is that political groups, in short, are groups that wish to change the world or lead the world down a certain path. And the arrogance of these 18 year old children, thinking somehow they had the experience and wisdom to dictate to the rest of the country or the world how things should be angers me to no end.
A perfect example would be the idiots in the anti-globalization movement. Here you have a group of (once again) young, stupid college students (some even in high school), going out on some "noble crusade" to help the poorer countries of the world. Did one of them take the time to stop and see if lowering trade barriers does indeed hurt the poor? Of course not, that would take intellectual rigor and effort. Much easier to smoke some pot, pierce your nose, feel sorry for yourself, say, "yeah man, it's like all the corporations dude and they're raping the developing world for their resources!" and then go down to Seattle or Cancun and derail the trade meeting while effectively destroying the town as well in a riot/protest.
Meanwhile (and follow the logic on this), Bukbar in Tanzania who desperately wants to sell his cotton to America and Europe cannot for a bunch of spoiled brat suburbanite American kids with absolutely no education in international economics protested against the lowering of tariffs in order to help him. Insanity.
Another perfect example of leftist's ignorance harming what they're trying to help is when a group of environmentalists destroyed a bunch of genetically modified trees in Britain. Little did they know the trees were genetically modified to be more resistant to insects and therefore would not need pesticides and chemicals making them environmentally friendly.
Such ignorance suggested to me that there was more afoot than just the desire to "belong." That there was another psychological factor driving these leftists. If these people really just wanted to "belong" then they could have joined the badminton team or the broom ball league and left it at that. But no, they insisted on joining "causes" or "crusades." Things that revolved around protesting or changing the world. And then it hit me;
Their egos.
It is human nature to want to go and accomplish things. To build a better mouse trap. To climb the highest peak. To accomplish things to be proud of, and let's admit it, to help build our self-esteem and ego. But those endeavors require something; effort.
Ironically, this runs contrary to another aspect of human nature, particularly leftists; we're lazy. We like to accomplish the most, with the least amount of effort.
Now, take some spoiled brat kid whose parents had the "my child is an honor student at the school for freaking retards" bumper sticker. This kid never had to work, never accomplished anything, but was taught to believe that he is great and destined for great things by his parents and feel-good-touchy-feely-teachers. Take that ego and combine it with the kid's desire to belong to a group, feed his ego, yet expend minimal effort, and when given the choice;
"Hey kid, you can bat this shuttlecock back and forth and belong or...
"Fly out to Seattle against insurmountable odds to protest in an epic and never-ending galactic battle against the evil, villainous forces of Capitalism in a desperate attempt to save no less than THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD from Capitalism's evil clutches!"
What do you think the suburbanite-bred-egomanic kid is going to choose?
Obviously he's going to join the Peace Corps, ACT, ALF, ELF or some anti-globalization outfit. Why play volleyball when you can become an instant hero in a noble cause without really thinking about it or doing anything. Forget whether the policies work. Forget whether those genetically modified trees would have benefited the environment. Forget that every time countries trade participating countries' standards of living go up. And forget that the last $650 billion in aid to Africa didn't do squat. It doesn't matter, because "I care, I'm helping, I'm making the world a better place." One only has to look to Bob Geldorf, the founder of the failed Live 8 benefit concert;
"Something must be done, even if it doesn't work."
Could a more defining statement of liberalism exist? Alas, this is key to understand the psychology of the left, especially protestors and activists, for...
Their egos supersede the cause. Forget whether the cause is noble or not. Forget whether their cause actually produces tangible results. Forget whether the cause even worsens the situation or perhaps is indeed evil. And heaven forbid you spend any time studying and researching the facts. It doesn't matter because it is more important to these people to masturbate their egos and feel good about themselves than it is to actually alleviate poverty in Africa. Or eliminate the use of pesticides. Or increase the standards of living in poorer countries.
In other words little 19 year old Protestor Patricia should have the right to protest against CAFTA because her self-esteem is more important than the livelihood of Jose Honesto in Costa Rica who just wants to sell his bananas in the US and feed his family.
The question is, does this really significantly differ from that of the psychology of Islamic terrorists?
Note the many similarities between the spoiled brat-come-professional protestor and Islamic terrorists. The majority of these professional activists and protestors do not come from the slums of Cabrini Green in Chicago or the pits of Washington D.C. but from affluent suburbia with all their basic life necessities taken care of by daddy, allowing them the luxury of pursuing intellectual pursuits. The same can be said of Bin Laden and many of the terrorists. For they do not hail from poor, impoverished families in a podunk Pakistani village, but rather are the sons of billionaires, doctors or most recently spoiled kids enjoying the high standards of living in the United Kingdom. Also much like their leftist American counterparts they are all relatively young or were young when they converted to their cause. Most protestors (bar the burnt out loser hippie professor from the 60's) are under the age of 35 as are most of the terrorists, an age at which they are susceptible to indoctrination. The only difference is the tool used for indoctrination. For the American college student it is the seemingly "something for nothing" attraction of socialism. For the young, affluent muslim, it is radical Islam.
And when given the same choice,
"Hey, Rahib. Do you want to go and get a degree in engineering, go to mosque, raise some kids and maybe some goats?
or...
"Go to the Western Infidel stronghold of London and against insurmountable odds wage an underground, underdog war in an epic and never-ending galactic fight against the evil, villainous forces of Capitalism, Christianity, America and Western Culture in a desperate attempt to convert the people of the world to Islam and destroy those that won't, while you guarantee yourself a position in heaven along with 72 brown-eyed virgins even though you have not the equipment to enjoy them!"
Again, what seems more heroic and romantic and would play to the psychoses of a brainwashed Islamic ego-manic?
Thus, it is the attraction of becoming an instant hero, an instant crusader in a glorious and noble cause that tempts the young and the foolish into joining these causes. They are so spoiled, so catered to throughout their lives that they have not the patience, nor the intellectual rigor nor the honesty to go and confirm if the cause is a practical one, or even a good one. Quite the contrary, they are so greedy, lazy and self-centered whether the cause is a noble one, heck, even if it's an evil one is purely secondary. Who cares if socialism accidentally killed 100 million people prematurely and held billions in poverty. Who cares that Islam has kept billions impoverish and condemned billions of women to the status animals and looks set to rival communism in killing a couple hundred million. Who cares, I'm gettin' me some 72 virgins!
And it is this, that is the epitome of evil, when one's ego supersedes the rights, livelihood and well-being of others. It is the most cowardly, childish, weak-minded and self-serving form of evil I have ever come across. Too demand that your ego be fed to the point that you firebomb suburban developments, or destroy genetically modified trees, or torch Hummer dealerships, or bomb abortion clinics, or fly planes into buildings, or blow up explosives in a subway or a hotel is to be the lowest and most evil life form and is a trait many leftists and all terrorists have in common.
The scary thing is that there is one more similarity between the brainwashed masses of American college students and the muslim nutjobs. And that is they share a common enemy;
America and Capitalism.
Of course how could it be any other way? For America and Capitalism share one thing in common, which is ultimately the true enemy of leftists and terrorists; the truth. For a people that appreciate the truth, seek the truth and then base their actions on the truth, will become the most successful people in the world. The truth is Capitalism is the optimal economic system and America is the result of a people understanding and following that truth.
Alas, it seems that in order to keep their egos intact and well-fed, leftists and terrorists are insistent on destroying America and Capitalism.
But never fear, for at the forefront of the battle against socialists and terrorists will always be that dashingly handsome and sexy beast of an economist, Captain Capitalism...that and the combined powers of the US Armed Forces, CIA, FBI, and NSA.
When your ego supersedes the truth and the well-being of your fellow man, you got issues. For if I were to bet money on it, I'd say that the instant your desire to advance yourself trumps the rights, livelihood and well-being of others is the instant you have become evil. Ode to the Single People and Those Without Children
Being a single guy with no children and seeing many of my friends fall to the fates of being married with children, and with the memory of having to check “no, I can claim no dependents” on my taxes and thus my tax bill soared, I thought it about high time to make an ode to single people.
For you see, single, child-free people are the engines of society. We are what defines a culture and makes it dynamic. We are the ones making the headlines. We are the go getters, the fighters, the soldiers, the entrepreneurs. We are the P-51 Mustangs that protect the bombers, chase and hunt down other fighters, we are the swift and nimble, able to adapt and adjust at a moment’s notice, turn on a dime, and barrel down the opposite direction with the entirety of our preponderance.
And I’d venture to guess that if you look at the majority of inventions that have advanced society, you’d see they were created by and large by single people or married people that did not have children at the time.
Being so free, swift and nimble, we are the envy of our counter-parts; those with children. They won’t admit it, but they envy us and our ability to go and do whatever we want, whenever we want. We can eat sushi once a week and it won’t cripple our finances. We don’t really get all bothered about the increase in the price of gas, because we don’t have to drive little Jimmy to soccer practice and little Jessie to dance class. We just have to drive to the jazz club and back. And without having to pay for childcare or all the fees associated with our children’s activities, we can afford a good, warm, professionally made meal, a martini and perhaps buy a DVD on our way back home. Instead of determining which diapers we should buy, we determine which LCD projector we should get for our home theater. Instead of spending 2 hours to track down a baby sitter so that we may go out 3 weeks from now, we spend 2 minutes on e-mail or the phone seeing who wants to salsa dancing tonight. And instead of giving birth to 5 children, only to destroy your body and have your husband in a retaliatory or indifferent nature get a gut, we run, work out and stay fit and trim so that we may be attractive to one another and please each other sexually not to mention lavish our beloved with untold amounts of chocolate, wine, trips to Europe, massages and lingerie.
And, oh sure, when you ask people “do you regret having children” they’ll say things like,
“My children are the most important thing in my life”
or
“I love my children.”
Or
“Well, they can get on your nerves at times” but will immediately follow up hurriedly, “but, oh, no no, of course not, I don’t regret having them.”
Of course we know most of them to be liars, avoiding the question, and refusing to give a yes no answer, knowing full well they cannot admit to such a horrible thing; regretting they had children…or perhaps it’s because they value their egos more than they do their children and thusly could not sustain the damage in admitting they were wrong.
Regardless, don’t worry, those with children have their revenge. And just like Minnesota Nice people, they exact a toll of revenge silently, behind your back. For they make the single people pay for their children.
Be it the property taxes that you pay for a school that we send no children to, or just the higher rates we get hit with, or the lack of deductions and child credits, and let’s not forget the bevy of social programs all dedicated to kids, oh yes my fellow childless, singlehood brothers and sisters, we pay.
But if there is any consolation, my friends, sleep well at night knowing that although we pay for our freedom, at least we have it.

You think I have charts? Wait till you get a load of this!
Charts! CHARTS! AND MORE CHARTS!!!
Actually, I know about Michael Hodges and his Grandfather reports a while ago. He focuses/specializes on the inevitable financial crisis we'll have here in the US due to social security, medicare and in general, lazy bums.
Pay him a visit, but I suggest pouring yourself a hefty martini first. You'll spend a lot of time there and you'll need something to calm you down.

Ahhhh, Diversity
Well, it was a fun run guys, this whole "United States of America" thing.
No, no, seriously, it was a great shot, good time. We should do it again sometime.
But, now it's time for the party to end and embrace diversity and let any psycho into the country under the guise of "diversity" and "understanding."
Although, I heard there's a great party going on in Ireland and China. Anybody going there?

How Can I Not Be Right?
OK, so, I caught a lot of flak for this one.
But in light of yet another muslim idiot blowing himself up, I can hardly see how I'm not spot on.
I also couldn't help but notice he majored in social work.

The Current Account Deficit
There seems to be confusion abound about the current account deficit and exactly what it means. Oh sure, economists will say;
" The net flow of current transactions, including goods, services, and interest payments, between countries."
And then they wonder why they don't get dates.
So here is a more real world, simplified application of the current account;
How much more do we consume than we produce as a country.
Or perhaps
How much more do we spend than we earn as a country.
For as Americans have become more lazy and slothful, yet our appetite for SUVs, flat screen TV's, clothes, etc., has not abated, we have to rely on somebody to loan us the money to afford all these things. Thus each year for the past 23 years, we here in America have spent more than we made, and particularly so in the last year, spending a full 6% more than what we produced.
And while we are used to being able to roll over our debts, consolidate them into interest deductible mortgages and refinance at lower rates, that party will surely end soon should even the slightest economic recession hit us as it will be magnified by our gluttonous appetite for debt.
Of course the upside to this is that we nerdy economists who have been paying down our debts, investing in foreign assets and paying cash for our used 1994 Oldsmobile, will all of the sudden become sexy. And the chicks who once chased after Fabio and his 100% leveraged Cadillac Escalade and Interest Only/ARM-financed 4 bedroom house in the suburbs, will become disenchanted with his filing for bankruptcy and be chasing after us for they will appreciate the merits of equity financing...

Bend Over So that China May Kick Your Ass
I found this chart fascinating and confirming of what I've always suspected;
That China is only communist in name and is the worst threat to American supremacy;
A pro-capitalist dictatorship that actually knows what it's doing.
It's like a small nimble company that can make executive decisions without worrying about all the minor political ramifications, unlike their larger, slothful big corporation counter parts that just can't seem to move as quick to take advantage of the market.
So while we compromise and meet in the middle to in effect, effect impotent legislation, and further deteriorate into French-like mediocrity, the likes of China and Saudi Arabia (see how they're building a fence, no questions asked, ef the minority and dissenters we're moving on to progress and advance) are making moves to improve themselves.

This Week on The Economics Supper Club!
Hey All!
Broadcasting again tomorrow. Saturday, 1-3PM Central Standard Time.
If you care to join us for an economic cocktail, but live outside the Twin Cities area, you can listen online here!
Feel free to call in too 1-877.615.1500
Will be talking about the utter stupdity of people who don't plan for retirement. I will then berate them mercilessly.
Might get around to pondering why I have so many women in my dance class. Haven't figured out the backup topic yet.
Regardless, feel free to call in. It throws off the producer when I get calls out of state!

Look, guys in New York sitting atop your Manhattan skyscrapers.
The whole US does not consist of burnout baby boomer wanna be's who protest all the time because their lives are so void and vapid they have to come up with false crusades to make themselves feel better.
You see, if you'd just report the truth then...
Ah to hell with it. The bloggers will just continue to trounce your asses.

Work = Wealth
The more you work, the richer you become.
Of course, simple concepts and laws like these run contrary to leftist thought and ideology so what people like me have to do is prove it.
So here is the average hours worked per year for the average person in the following OECD countries (most recent data available);

(Note our good French friends are on the lower end of the scale.)
Anyway, that's all nice and well, but if we want to establish the relationship between work and wealth production we have to take a more longitudinal look.
So what I did was take the 5 and 10 year average hours worked per year and correlated them against the 5 and 10 year average RGDP growth rates of all the OECD countries.
(correlation coefficient of .67)
(correlation coefficient of .47)
And surprise surprise (to the socialists anyway), the more you work...
GASP!
THE HIGHER YOUR ECONOMIC GROWTH!!!!!!
Will the amazing science we've all come to know and love known as economics ever cease to amaze?

Government Fun!
So whilst digesting the OECD's 2006 Factbook I happened upon an interesting chart;
Household expenditure on recreation and culture as a % of GDP;
Seems the good ol' Anglo Saxons spend the most and thus live it up the most spending 6% or more on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Then there was another chart;
Government expenditure on recreation and culture.
Good lord, if a freaking barometer for socialism didn't exist, it exists now!
Nothing better than the government TELLING you what you're going to have fun with and enjoy.
Then again, at least some money is spent on recreation and culture, albeit inefficiently by the government.
I'd be curious to see similar charts for Arab countries.

Trailer Homes
I'm not a big fan of trailer folk. And I don't care how Republican they are or how they have a "Support Our Troops" magnet on their Monte Carlo or Ford F-150 along with their NASCAR paraphernalia, I'd really rather talk to an academian liberal. Seriously, that's how much disdain I have for the Trailer Park People.
Well the Census Bureau has some interesting information. Seems they polled what percent of housing was mobile homes.
Scarily enough some states have mobile homes accounting for nearly 1 in 5 of all homes.
I'd rather hang out at a Dunn Brothers.

A Popularity Contest
I always viewed Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as a popularity contest of countries' economies. Not too unlike high school.
FDI is investment from foreign countries into yours. This is a good thing as the more of it you have the better your economy does. Foreign firms (and governments) want to set up shop in your country to produce goods or sell their goods/services there. This provides employment and boosts GDP.
Typically countries that have lower taxes, low regulation, open markets, and other such fascist imperialistic capitalistic abonimations will attract FDI, just as a high school girl that has big boobs, a tight body and a pretty face will attract the boys.
Thus when we compare FDI INFLOWS and OUTFLOWS as a percent of GDP for various countries, you get a really good idea as to who the most popular girls in high school are.
Alas it seems Ireland and Luxembourg are the most popular girls who receive all the attention, but return very little of it. And if you look for those cute girls next door you'll note Poland, the Czech and the Slovak Republics are also quite popular...I always loved girls in high school with a flat tax.
