The average public defender sentence is three years longer. (five years longer if controlled for type of crime) even though people with more serious charges tend to hire private attorneys.
Thats actual prison sentence time difference. Not probation. Time sentenced to serve.
If you're black you are twice as likely to have your charge reduced with a private attorney.
If you're white, you are three times less likely to be released on bail with a public defender.
It does in everything.
