The End of Awards
It was last night the GF said unto me, "Cappy, let's get some dinner." Preoccupied with taxes and mundane busy work, I said, "Fine. Find a place and let's go." And in about 10 minutes she had found a place - "Culinary Drop Out."
So off to the preppy parts of Scottsdale we went where upon entering the restaurant we both knew she had made a mistake. For the restaurant was not so much a restaurant but a dog-rescue like non-profit where the last vestiges of hipsters, millennials, and people confused about their sexual identity were hired and provided a nice little preserve to live in (ironically...or perhaps not so ironically... in the most preppy, conformist part of Arizona). It was bad enough I could not look at our server, who although nice and very good at her job, was so pierced, tattooed and poorly dressed, it ruined the dining experience.
We ordered quick.
Ate fast.
And got the hell out of there.
However, whilst waiting for our food I couldn't help but notice what was on two TV's that hung above the bar. One TV was showing the X games, the other some "music awards ceremony."
One TV had snowboarders working amazing tricks on the half pipe.
The other had two aged baby boomer hippies playing guitars.
One had 20 somethings flipping snowmobiles off of jumps.
The other had some old washed up 60 somethings blathering on about some cause or another.
One had youth cheering on loudly as skiers did triple-lindys off a jump.
The other had middle-agers donned in tuxes and formal regalia, golf clapping at the latest award awarded to some person or another for some thing.
The two could not have been more juxtaposed and they highlighted an important lesson for everybody to learn about awards - they no longer mean anything.
After watching Bruno Mars (I can at least visually identify him) win "Best New Album" I finally broke down and looked up which award ceremony was being broadcasted on CBS and it turned out to be the "Grammy's."
At one time, when I was in single digits these ceremonies and awards might have meant something. My mom would sit me down to watch Ms. America, which at least in theory celebrates beauty. I recall watching the various "ammy's" because there was no cable, they had pomp and circumstance, and there wasn't much else to do that late in the evening for an 8 year old. But the first hint I received that something was amiss and that these award ceremonies were absolutely pointless was when Jack Nicholson wasn't even nominated for his role as the Joker in Batman.
I didn't have much time to think about it soon after that because I would be shipped off to college soon thereafter and my consumption of pop culture would tank for the next 6 years. But further bits of data and evidence would soon appear proving nearly every societal establishment, institution, guild, and pillar was corrupt and their "prestigious awards" completely pointless.
While in college Arafat won a Nobel Peace prize in 1994, which only echoed various UN nominations of dictators to human right's commissions and positions. This was confirmed when a man who LITERALLY HAD NO REAL WORLD WORKING EXPERIENCE AND HADN'T DONE ANYTHING YET won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 - Barack Obama. There was the fact I had a 3.96 but couldn't technically graduate with "honors" because I didn't spend enough time in extracurricular activities that included diversity, working with the poor, and other such political claptrap. All of which was backdropped by now two decade's worth of "ammy" awards where skill and talent is rarely discussed, but speeches against BushHitlerTrumpIraqEtc., seemed to be all that mattered. Stephen Colbert's hosting of one of these "ammy" awards recently, where all he did was obsess over Trump like a teenage girl, epitomized this.
But while the awards of our global institutions have been co-opted for blatant leftist political reasons, awards in nearly every aspect of American life have also become pointless.
For example take the self-inflicted sob story of arguably America's dumbest woman - Sarah Pool. Among the story of self-inflicted ruination, Sarah holds up her 3.95 GPA in "English" as an accomplishment or prize, when in reality it doesn't take much to get a high GPA in the liberal arts and grad inflation is rampant. Those hipsters working at the Culinary Dropout? Merely representatives of the first generation of adults who had meaningless participation trophies, not to mention the elimination of GPA's and valedictorians in some of their schools. And in what can only be described as the most perfect example of mental and ego masturbation the "Chicago Bird Collision Monitors Awards" which merely award awards to each other and is endemic among non-profits, academia, and CSR departments.
What is happening is very simple. To actually achieve something noteworthy takes effort, rigor, sacrifice, thought, and time. In short, you must pay a price, beyond financial, to do something noteworthy, let alone win a real award. But with a softening of American resolve and a decay in the quality and caliber of Americans, more and more people want the benefits of the award without the actual achievement that would earn them one. This is not only hypocritical, but insane, because I don't know how you can enjoy or take pride in an award when you did nothing to earn it. This is epitomized in the vast number of various civilian awards, titles, and honors issued by the Soviet government to aggrandized themselves and legitimize communism even though there was nothing of genuine accomplishment to celebrate. The "donating blood" award was merely the Soviet's equivalent of a soccer mom's bumper sticker of "My Student is a Great Student and Dumfuck Elementary,"but in all honesty is more of an accomplishment than Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize.
The question is whether society realizes this or they fail to see past these formerly glorious institutions' past reputations. Does little Johnny actually think he's "a great student" because his mommy (and every other students' mommies) have bumper stickers on their SUV's? Does little Suzie with her 48 participation trophies think she's accomplished at anything? Do all the graduate students in the liberal arts think they're education and not indoctrinated simply because they have an advanced degree in some leftist liberal arts slop? And much as you may like him, you gotta know that Barack himself doesn't actually believe he deserved that Nobel Prize.
The good news is that even though I was in the hipster-rescue charity called "The Culinary Dropout," nobody was watching the Grammy awards. They were more focused on the actual display of athletic excellence being portrayed on the X Games and not the washed up hippies playing their guitars and the nearly-dead golf-clapped them on as they no doubt called for more of other people's money to solve problems they really cared about. I charter this more to the fact flipping snowmobiles is just more impressive and eye catching, but there is also salvation in the internet. The internet has truly democratized media where CBS, the MSM, and large traditional institutions no longer have the pull they once did. Not only because "the youth" today no longer watch TV and are instead glued to their cell phones, but the old dinosaur institutions that present awards are so far up their own asses and too busy blowing each other, they've lost touch with the younger generations and lost touch with what it means to be "excellence." Dragging Bono's ass up on stage thinking the 19-34's are going to watch him (yet again) lecture them about how they should feel guilty does not have the pull as to whether Shawn White is going to make that epic flip. Having Madonna's wrinkly corpse up on stage lecture the 19-34 year olds is not as exciting as whether or not their post was liked on Facebook or Suzie Q is going to Snapchat a nudie pic to Bobby Joe. It is the laziness, lack of genuine excellence, political corruption, and the alternatives the internet provides that has ended the value and ultimate meaning of the world's traditional awards. And thank god because they mean absolutely nothing.

Cappy's Patreon Account
Greetings Lieutenants and Economists,
I have finally gotten off my ass and put together a Patreon account. This is in response to people asking "why don't you have a Patreon account?" To which I respond, "I have the Amazon Affiliate program, plus if people want to donate they can anytime through my Paypal Account."
Still, it dawned on me that Patreon (though it charges more than Paypal) is more or less the monopoly when it comes to donating to your favorite podcasters, youtubers, bloggers, and other online personalities, and since it is more or less the "way" people donate, I decided to not fight the market and just create a Patreon account.
That being said, there are still ways you can support the Captain that does not cost you money and/or costs US less than Patreon.
The first is of course my Amazon Affiliate program where you simply click here (or on the Amazon banner conveniently in the right side bar) and get into the GOOD HABIT of making all your Amazon purchases through that link. You pay nothing extra, but I get an extra 6-7% commission on all your purchases. Remember GO THROUGH THIS LINK, NOT directly to Amazon.com.
The second thing is you can always make payments to my Paypal account. This unfortunately does not allow for the automated monthly "patronage" that Patreon allows for, but Paypal does have such an option (that I put WAAAAY down below in the right side bar many years ago), but is now conveniently here:
The reason I suggest PayPal over Patreon is because Patreon takes a 10% commission, while PayPal takes only a 3% commission. But again, I know most of the patronage is done via Patreon.
Finally, if you'd like to support the Captain and ensure he never goes back to working banking, but don't have the money, nor have anything you need to buy on Amazon, then the best thing you can do is simply spread the word of the good Captain. I did an ever so rough estimation, but if you share an article you like, a podcast you enjoyed, or recommend Asshole Consulting to somebody, that's worth about $16 in marketing. That word of mouth costs you nothing, and I SINCERELY appreciate it when you spread the good word of Cappy around.
Anyway, I appreciate all of you who have tuned it, listened, hired me out or have supported me in the past. Please feel free to donate, but by all means please support me through FREE MEANS by making all your online purchases through my Amazon affiliate plan or simply sharing Cappy Cap on social media.
Many thanks,
Cappy

Why You Never Hire a Theater Major
The Great One from the Cynical Libertarian Society is a great story teller, in spite of his frequent tangenting. Like his disagrees the most with me, I also disagree the most with him. This story/episode, however, is an absolute must listen.
It's a modern day saga that entails
Worthless degrees.
The Rule of 505025
Girls flaking
Equal treatment of the sexes
Rich daddies
Dreams of California
Mental illnesses
And clueless liberal arts majors.
Do understand and note the Captain does not share the Great One's beliefs on women in the work place. The Captain wants nothing more than the equal treatment of women because I desperately want you women to be working as hard and paying as much in taxes as humanly possible. I do not want you barefoot or pregnant in the kitchen. I want you majoring in STEM, I want you earning doctorates, I want you in commutes, and I want you earning 6 figures, forking over 40% to the federal, state and local governments. I do indeed want you to have genuine equal treatment to men.
Regardless, you have been warned about the Great One's politically incorrect and unpopular opinions. But that aside, he tells a great tale that all people of all stripes can learn from.

The Revalidation of MGTOW
My history with MGTOW is no secret.
Like millions of other men I am one, but once the movement was co-opted by weaker men who were looking for a religion or an excuse to excuse their cowardice and laziness when it came to women (and life), I abandoned the term as it became a pejorative, much like the word "feminism." However, to this day me and millions of other men remain your classical MGTOW - we re-prioritize our own personal lives over women and do not put them or the pursuit of them at the top of our lives.
This created a schism between those real men who took what philosophical value they could from MGTOW and moved on in life versus those who are cultish about it and use it as a religion. This "Cult of MGTOW" has received much mockery and ridicule from those outside the cult because it's painfully obvious how they are "abusing MGTOW."
They use it as a religion/crutch in life because they (typically, though not always) have nothing else in life.
Some are overweight and unattractive, but too lazy to do what is necessary to become physically fit, and thus attractive, and thus provide what women are looking for in a man. This laziness is more powerful than their biological drive to pursue women, but does not eliminate their desire for women. This is why they MIRE in the ideology, rather than just pursue a monastic life of celibacy and asexuality. They may put MGTOW first, but they ironically obsess about the thing they're too lazy to get - women.
Some are fresh off of divorce and are in the stage of "Red Pill Rage," a completely understandable, if not avoidable stage in life when you realize you've been lied to your entire life. Most men move on from this, but some do not, which leads to...
Genuine misogyny. I don't know if this is a cathartic release for some MGTOW's or an actual hatred of women, but the only place I've witnessed ACTUAL MISOGYNY has not been in "corporate America," or "government" or "schools" or in the social world. It's been in the MGTOW community. This is certainly not the majority of them (cult or not), but modern day MGTOW, just like feminism is where you will find a genuine hatred of people because of their plumbing.
Normally this irrational and flawed thinking would banish MGTOW to where it belongs - a dismiss-able cult. It may have meant something at one time, but its modern day acolytes and participants have warped it into something worthless, arguably counter-productive, possibly evil. But just when you think you have a movement pegged, just when you think O'Sullivan's Law is cementing itself in a group, society changes to such an extent, this previously pointless movement now has validity again. And MGTOW, even in its extreme form, is at least more valid today than it was yesterday.
What has brought MGTOW partially back to the fore front has been a RECENT and DRASTICALLY INCREASING intensity of the hatred of men. Understand since about the 1960's the hatred of men, in the form of feminism, has always been there. Women can hide behind the false claim it's about "the equal treatment of women," and some feminists may actually believe that, but their actions indicate it's about the superior treatment of women, and thus, by logical default, the inferior treatment of men. This has always been the default standard background noise, sometimes getting louder in the late 60's and 90's, while getting quieter in the 80's and 00's. But in the past 5 years, particularly the past 2, the hatred of men has been turned up to 11 and is higher than any point I've witnessed in my 40+ years of life.
Some of this is due to the fake rape epidemic on college campuses where feminists have successfully convinced women that drunk sex, regretted sex, an unwanted advance or a clumsy proposition from men qualifies as rape or assault.
There's the INCREDIBLY disturbing trend of women using rape accusations as a weapon of revenge when a man dumps them or refuses their advances.
There's also the sexual harassment/assault scandal of Hollywood, where while some legitimate concerns and instances of assault occurred, it has triggered a witch hunt in others, manifesting in the Aziz ballyhoo.
All of this mired in the broth of a purposed and indoctrinating anti-male ideology instilled by feminists in academia, but also supported by the media, the HR/CSR profession, and the government.
I could go on, but in the end, you're not losing it. You're not mental. You're not "seeing things." There is a conscious (and sadly, unconscious) purposed effort in some segments of society, many of those institutions (like academia, the legal profession, etc.), to hate men. And not only hate men, but to make masculinity illegal. Whether it's because of an actual bigotry against penis, a money making operation for feminists, gender consultants, professors, and lawyers, or just a weapon for a woman scorned, it doesn't matter, a significant percentage of the population hates men.
Which sadly, re-validates a movement like MGTOW, even in it's cultist form.
I have been lucky enough to know many kind and genuinely good women. And there are many kind and genuinely good women in my life. But that's only because you tend to keep the good ones around. And if you think about it, you've come across many bad people (men and women) in your life that you simply avoided or passed by. But it only takes one to really put a burr in your saddle, or in the case of false rape accusations, ruin your life. And with women being conditioned and brainwashed, especially the younger ones, to constantly look to be a victim, men are forced to walk on eggshells their entire lives. Worse, when the "crime" is being watered down so much from the traumatic, unwanted, and forcible penetration of rape to "he hit on me" or "I was drunk" you now make standard male, genetically programmed behavior illegal, or at least socially ostracizeable. And while to this day I don't believe the majority of women are like this, it sadly presents the paradox of Muslims and Muslim terrorists. Is it 1 in 100 that wants to blow up a building? Is it 1 in 10? Is it 1 in 5? It only takes one jaded girl who swallowed whole the indoctrination they received in school or the media to falsely accuse a man of rape/assault/harassment, the fear of which is now irreversibly hard-wired and installed in men of today.
This means, much as I may disagree with the modern day cultists of MGTOW, their cynicism has a point and their jadedness serves a purpose today. In today's environment men cannot simply be men, hitting on girls, getting shot down, occasionally not, getting drunk, and scoring through some miracle of god as they have time-immemorial. The risks are just too high. This doesn't mean you become a hermit, ne'er talking to a girl again, but sadly you must be guarded and be very discerning of the women you hang out with, and certainly approach. Sadly, even using apps like this, in-human and sterile and unromantic as it may be, may be the precautionary legal condom you have to use before the real thing. Worse, be prepared for it to only get worse where masculine behavior might actually made illegal. Remember, it only takes one sperm to get past the goalie, one Muslim to drive a truck in a crowded European marketplatz, and one woman thoroughly steeped in victimhood and feminist ideology to make for a very bad day.
Remember, a red pill a day keeps the divorce lawyers away, and though I have my disagreements with MGTOW, you may want to introduce yourself to the philosophy.

Why the Left Must Eliminate Masculinity
Because it is hard to control and thus won't obey like good little supplicant socialist beta soy boys and fork over their money for "the state."
What's Worse Than HR????
HR in the public sector.
What's worse than that?
When the public sector is a leftist shithole like Seattle.
I can only imagine the insanity that occurs when you throw meritocracy out the door, hire based on plumbing and pigmentation, in a field already dominated by math-impaired ditzes, who on top of all that, are power-tripping tyrants.
Enjoy the decline boys! Enjoy that freaking decline!

Yes, It Is a Witch Hunt
And here are some interesting statistics to prove it (which I know 'statistics" and "empirical data" doesn't count in la la land of hating males and feminism, but reality doesn't care).

What College's Fear Most - Corporate Training Programs
It was before my time, but like "nickelodeons," "World War I," and "dinosaurs I was reliably informed about an equally extinct phenomenon from America's days' past.
"Corporate training programs."
You see, apparently, waaaaaay back in the day, corporations and employers would hire you, often times fresh out of high school, mayhaps even before and then, and...
(GET THIS
No, really you have to sit down.
No, honestly, this is going to floor you!!! )
then they'd TRAIN YOU in the job you were hired to do!
I know! Who knew! Those crazy old people with their antiquated ways and walking uphill both ways to school!
Anyway, apparently what ended up happening was about the time the baby boomers took over corporate America they realized that instead of training people for specific tasks, they would instead simply require you have more education in a field that was at best tangentially related to the specific duties that would be required of the job. So if they needed a credit analyst they would require somebody have a degree in finance. If they needed some one to manage a fish store, they'd require a business degree. And if they needed a computer system administrator, they'd require a degree in computer engineering.
Now, you might be asking, "Captain, well those degrees are pretty general and not specific enough to help do any one particular job. Even if I had a business degree, I would still need to learn a little bit about fish and their fish like ways. Wouldn't these new baby boomer bosses, you know, still have to train you in a little bit?"
And you would think so Younger Generation American. But you see, the baby boomers had two solutions to that problem!
"Steep learning curve."
And
"I don't have time to hold your hand!"
And thus with those two mere phrases, combined with requiring you spend 4 years earning a degree, they completely outsourced all their training expenses, ne'er having to spend another cent training their actual employees.
Of course, employee loyalty tanked. You had to start employing the other half to make ends meet in an American family budget. Not to mention every Gen X'er and Millennial want to kill pretty much ALL baby boomer bosses, but you see what REALLY mattered was that baby boomer bosses didn't have to actually, you know, like "manage" their employees and could just sit in meetings all day kissing ass for promotion.
This lasted for about 40 years and certainly is still heavily practiced today (as most baby boomers didn't adequately save for retirement and have to work well past 70 asking us younger people how to use Excel as we pay for their social security). But some interesting things happened over those 40 years.
First an educational arms race occurred where an increasing percent of the population was required to get an increasing (and unnecessary) amount of education for entry level positions. And so whereas a job in 1950 required a high school diploma, that same job required an associates in 1980, a bachelors in 1990, and a masters in 2010. This manifested itself in the "Masters Preferred" phrase that was typically used in conjunction with "Steep learning curve" and "I don't know how to use Excel." Never mind a young man or woman was now required to spend an extra 6 years in school and $125,000 on post-high school education, it was more important the future generations cripple themselves financially so baby boomer bosses didn't have to pay for training or get their hands dirty actually managing.
Second, there was something happening at the actual schools. Since there was an educational arms race occurring, demand for degrees shot up. Baby boomers, always deathly afraid of Excel, found this a win win. Not only would they require younger generations get completely unnecessary degrees, but they would also be the professors who would teach (and also charge $250 per credit) for those degrees. This worked for a while until two variables became so critical it actually destroyed the value of degrees, no matter how much the baby boomer bosses demanded them in the real world.
1. The cost of tuition got too high (both in terms of time and money).
2. The quality of the students graduating with masters degrees were of poor quality, unable to meet the demands of the real world.
Enter the internet.
By all accounts and measures colleges should have been replaced long ago with online certifications by the government where you could simply test for your "finance degree" or "HR degree" much like IT and computer professionals test for their certifications. It would have saved Gen X and Millennials trillions, but remember, baby boomers who have nightmares about Excel and inadequate retirement savings need to keep this obsolete facade up so they may parasite off of their beloved future. But no matter how much they controlled the economy, no matter how much they lied to their children, inevitably newer industries led by smarter people would come along, obsolete them, usurp their power, and implement a more efficient and moral way to train in the younger generations.
And thus we have come full circle where increasing number of companies are offering...
(get ready for it!!!!!)
TRAINING PROGRAMS!!!
Sprouts and saplings of training programs have existed more or less for the past 15 years. More Millennials and certainly Gen Z'ers learn MUCH MORE from YouTube than they did all their teachers, parents, and professors combined in 17 years of schooling. Online and free colleges, or at least educational opportunities are forming in the form of EdX, Coursera, and bootcamps. And even accredited online colleges exist now that charge 1/3rd the price of tuition for an increasing number of degrees (not to mention, void of parking fees, commuting, waking up at 8AM, and $400 textbooks!) The internet has made training so cheap, and the baby boomers made traditional education such an absolute EXPENSIVE and psycho-sh!tshow, sanity is once again prevailing in the labor market and corporations are bringing back training.
I know this ancient and outdated phenomenon - like the nuclear family, 4.25% average GDP growth, masculine men, feminine women, and all things from the 1950's - is evil. And I know that Millennials and Gen Z'ers view "the college experience" more of a birthrighted party, which if taken away would be about the worst thing that could happen in your ignorant unwise eyes. But if we were to be logical about this, think it through, and ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT FUTURE GENERATIONS, we could do away with forcing every young person to waste 6 years of their youth and $150,000 in unnecessary expenses if we just fully embraced online education and brought back the "corporate training program."

The Man Who Escaped Seattle
Given Seattle's recent leftist insanity of instituting a soda tax and trying to install a municipal income tax (which is against the Washington State constitution), normal, self respecting people who like freedom and hate taxes will want to flee from it.
One man did where he escaped up into the Cascade mountains, bought an old shack, has converted it into his bachelor home, replete with refurbished wood burning stove, and now works remotely while also writing books and hiking. He also started podcasting and whereas I normally wait till podcasters are a bit more seasoned before linking to them, his episode on escaping Seattle is definitely worth a listen.
It will also has to serve as a substitute for my podcasting this week as I've been migrating from Vegas to Phoenix and got sick for the past two days, doing barely anything but the bare necessities. Hopefully, I will be back in full force this weekend with a regular level of production.

Why Herman Cain Should've Been President
I delve into the true role racist politics should play in American government. Republicans are at least noble and honest while the democrat party painfully made it clear they are a party of tyrants and not democracy when they screwed Bernie Sanders out of his rightful place in the primary.
Still, all that doesn't matter. Herman Cain should've been president, and if he was, it would have been a true testament to the fact minorities can indeed advance America foward.

Canadian Bloggers: 25% Off!
Just a friendly reminder. While the US economy grows (somewhat) under Trump and his policies seem to have somewhat of a positive effect on the economy (though still yet TBD), Canada is stuck with the world's biggest and softest trust fund baby who's never worked a day in his life and wants to use Canadian's money to make foreigners and parasites love him in a popularity contest! This (along with a drop in oil prices) has made the Canadian dollar drop about a quarter from the US dollar.
Which means it's never been cheaper to donate to Canadian bloggers you love and adore.
May I recommend two of them?
Kate at Small Dead Animals.
Stefan Molyneux at Freedomain Radio.
I know you beta boyos are too busy donating your money to cute conservathots that say obvious shit, but if you could perhaps donate money, AND AT CHEAP RATES, to our real Canadian friends to help advance freedom and philosophy?

How Western Governors University Will End the Insanity at American Colleges...Sort Of
A long time ago a fan of mine put me onto WGU or "Western Governors University." It is an online college that charges less than half the national average in tuition, it's accredited, it allows you to study from the comforts of your own home (or anywhere, really), you don't have to commute, pay for parking, walk in the cold, get falsely accused of rape, attend marxist indoctrination seminars on "diversity" or "privilege," take worthless pre-requisite classes, or pay idiotic "student service fees." It (along with ASU online) is one of the first accredited colleges to do one simple thing that:
banks
brokerages
music
movies
energy companies
retailers
and nearly every other sector of the economy has managed to do these past 20 years.
Offer their service online.
Of course, colleges have absolutely no incentive to go online even though their product (education) is ideally suited (i.e. - a service, not a physical tangible product) to be sold over the internet. Because if they did start offering accredited degrees over the internet, nearly everyone in higher education would lose their jobs and have to go find real ones in the real world instead of teaching.
One excellent professor can deliver a superior seminar or lecture to millions of students over the internet for a fraction of the cost it would take thousands of inferior in-classroom professors to do so.
You certainly don't need student centers, dorms, sports arenas, safe spaces, classrooms or any other physical buildings, let alone the land or infrastructure required for a college campus. Just some servers and IT staff.
And all those college administrators, professors, diversity counselors, diversity directors, directors of inclusion, dorm managers, coaching staffs, student aid officers, janitors, counselors, and consultants? Gone. Again replaced with...well...some servers and IT staff.
If you think about it, the cost of college tuition should be approaching zero. It's just so few colleges dare to offer accredited degrees online that what few entrants there are can still charge a pretty penny (though half the cost...and 1/100th the hassle and brainwashing...of that of physical schools).
According to economics this less costly, less painful, and ultimately superior product should cause a mass exodus from America's traditional colleges and universities and into the new online ones. This exodus I believe would also be doubly encouraged by the never-ending price increases in physical colleges' tuition and the fact the upcoming generation of college students (Gen Y) have spent their entire lives online. And though we won't know for sure until it happens, it's almost as obvious that today's physical colleges are as outdated and obsolete as the horse and buggy, the typewriter, newspapers, and ESPN.
There's just one problem.
Tell today's college bound kids that.
The truth is we...well...don't tell the youth the truth. We lie to them. Every day we tell them they "have to go to college." That the "key to success is college." By god, if you don't go to college you'll end up poor, alone, and (GASP!) not as successful as your peers! And you don't want that do you?
But there is something else much more fundamental going that adults, parents, and people-you-shouldn't-trust-because-they're-over-30 don't understand. And that is we have created such a hopeless, prison-like environment in the K-12 education system that these kids literally have NOTHING ELSE in life to look forward to than college. We don't teach them about the trades. We don't teach them about potentially joining the military. We don't teach them about homeownership, repair, housekeeping, having kids or the American dream. And I don't know one family that sits their kids down and tries to teach them about the importance of love, friends, family, and their future, giving them a kernel of hope there's something better for them in life than "just more school." This myopic focus on college ensures that young people today view college more like a young lady views her wedding day than they do an incredibly expensive and important financial investment in their future. And thus a fair amount of college-bound kids do not view college as an education, but a birthright entitlement called "The College Experience."
This will cause a split between America's college-bound.
Serious kids who want to invest in a real education that will increase their lifetime earnings.
and
Defeated kids who, lacking real guidance and upbringing from their parents and teachers, just want to escape to The Promised Land of
And this is how the insanity at America's colleges will end...more or less.
With physical colleges being unable to compete for the real college students, their attendances will drop, their revenues drop, and the quality and caliber of their students will drop. Again, this won't happen over night (and online colleges will have to start offering more STEM and engineering degrees if they wish to accelerate this process), but it is already happening. Tuition is getting so expensive it's forcing kids to look for cheaper alternatives, plus the internet is exposing higher education for the racket it is, not to mention breaking the information monopoly the old "Baby Boomer Era" of professors, teachers, and deans held in analog days over their students. The worthlessness of many college degrees is becoming apparent and alternatives to attending the "big university" are becoming increasingly well-known to college-age youth.
But this exodus will not only leave traditional, physical college with less money, but it will also leave them with the poorer-quality students. The mere "dreamers." The "college experience" students. The pot-smokers. Those who don't take their studies seriously and largely major in worthless subjects to post-pone adulthood for another 4-8 years, perhaps their entire lives by becoming professors themselves. This will not only result in physical colleges becoming more hostile towards serious students (protests, made up student fees, forcing people to attend "sensitivity training, accusing people of privilege, etc.) and thus further driving them into the arms of online colleges, but it will highlight to the world just what a mentally insane (and ultimately worthless) environment physical colleges have become. Combine this with the internet, and the DAILY insanity is hilariously/tragically chronicled for all the world to see.
What's worse for physical colleges, however, is while all the world will witness their mental and childish behavior, they are so inoculated in their precious world of academia they're completely unaware how they're driving students away. And thus, they will not only continue this insane, even hate filled behavior, but turn it up to 11...then 12, then 13, then 50, inevitably deterring even the most brainwashed of students because it will have turned into nothing but a radical, hate-filled cult of leftist, mentally damaged inferiors. Alas, slowly, but surely, physical colleges will no longer be bastions of true diverse and independent thought, with 10's of thousands of students, but poorly-attended liberal arts colleges that the world will make fun of...and never hire from.
In the end we will never get rid of the allure of "The College Experience." There will always be mis-informed kids who were so ill-raised they will have nothing else "but" in their lives. But with the power of the internet, both in terms of the nearly-free education it can deliver and its ability to expose just what a toxic and worthless institution American higher education has become, we can maybe start saving generations of youth from making the crippling mistake of paying for overpriced worthless degrees instead of feeding them to the meatgrinder of Big Education.

Cowboy Bebop Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary
If you didn't remember, there was a "Copyright Sunrise 1998" script at the bottom of every video. But if you were like me and too busy paying attention to the perfect Japanese anime that was unfolding in front of you, you are forgiven.
Still, you're old, so let's review what Cowboy Bebop did for us all.
First, it was unique in that most Japanese animation sucks. I remember getting excited when Robotech hit America's shores and if you watch it today, though horrible, it's still better than most anime coming from our Japanese cousins. Cowboy Bebop improved, if not, perfected upon that becoming the one oddity of Japanese anime that didn't completely suck. There was a plot, nobody turned into monsters or mecha, you could follow it, and the character development was so good it made you sad, if not furious when it ended.
Second, it was original. I know people love "Firefly." I too love "Firefly." But let's just admit it. Firefly is simply plagiarism of Cowboy Bebop (though I do believe Joss Whedon did originally develop it). Cowboy Bebop was a very welcomed original idea and original work that global audiences desperately needed as Hollywood embarked on its sequel-prequel regurgitation slop binge that plagues us 20 years later. You truly didn't know what was going to happen in Cowboy Bebop because it was truly original. It actually left the viewer to wonder.
Third, it was instructional. If you watched Cowboy Bebop you likely had poor role models in the real world. Your parents divorced, your dad wasn't around, your dad may have been around, but was a pansy, and the last bit of true manliness that was on TV was Spike and fatherly Jet. After 1998 the male role model was more or less absent, but every young man back then and today looks up to Spike, Jet, John McClane, and Tony Stark for idealism, masculinity, and a goal to aim for. Also, the harsh lesson of reality was painfully apparent in the life of Spike and Jet. Life was not easy, life was in fact, incredibly unfair and painful. But a flippant accepting attitude of this reality, combined with a zealous adherence to secretly-held morals and principles (of which you controlled) manifested itself in the form of calm, cool collected Spike and the long-suffering Jet. They may have not had beef with the bell peppers, but they had perfectly honed moral compasses and thus became models for any human with an ounce of morality and goodness within them.
Finally, it was beautiful. I know most of the people today can't get enough of the indistinguishable slop served up as rap, country music, or whatever Beyonce and Taylor Swift barf out of their mouths every month. But Cowboy Bebop was not made for the normies, conformies, inferiors, and lemmings. It was made for superior people who appreciate true art. And the musical score of Cowboy Bebop is just not even approachable. It was perfect. One could even say the music was wasted like pearls on swine as most people were thinking "meh, it's kind of cool, but why is the dog there?" instead of listening to the amazing score that contexted the show.
In the end Cowboy Bebop is one of the most perfected and beautiful forms of art humanity has ever created. I strongly recommend that every person watch the movie as an introduction to the series, and if not, outright buy the entire series. You will not be let down, it will improve you as a human being, and you will almost be depressed that this art ended so early. Alas, that is what true Cowboy Bebop fans want - more. But a mistress who doesn't leave you wanting more wasn't much of a mistress now, was she?

Should You Become a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner?
I know a lot of you Cappy Cappites are interested in the medical field when it comes to choosing a profession. However, the amount of education to become a doctor can be daunting, not to mention, not worth the time/pay/sacrifice, especially if you're a minimalist or don't need to make $250,000 a year. Our Health Care Agent in the Field sent this and I believe it will be of use for any young lieutenant out there looking to enter the health care field.
PA (physician assistant) vs NP vs Education (assumes people don't
start in other career tracks or other jobs). For reference, CRNA (nurse
anesthetist) has similar training time at NP but the salary is MUCH
higher
Ages 18-19
PA - Pre-requisites for PA school
NP - Halfway thru nursing school for RN degree
MD - Halfway thru undergrad for Bachelors degree (pre-requisite for med school)
Ages 20-21
PA - start in PA school
NP - finishes nursing school with RN degree (can choose to take time off and actually work as RN for over 60K per year)
MD - finishes undergrad (hopefully), starts APPLYING for med school
--> needs $$$ for applications and travelling to interviews, over
25% of med school students have Masters and/or PhD's and/or other
degrees BEFORE starting med school. But for sake of brevity, assume
best-case scenario that this hypothetical student goes straight to med
school
Ages 21-22
PA - can start working, may do an extra year of "internship" which is required for certain fields (surgical PA, ICU, etc)
NP - starts first year of NP school (already has RN degree)
MD - starts first year of med school
Ages 23-24
PA - has been working for 3 years (2 years if he/she did an internship)
NP - start final year of NP school
MD - finishes 3rd year of med school, still 1 year to go
Age 25
PA - has been working
NP - has been working and easily has been earning over 60K during
first year of work (because that's what an RN makes and NP's are paid
much better)
MD - starts final year of graduated med school, start looking for
residency --> spend money on application process and travelling to
interviews. This assumes that the MD didn't get a dual degree (MD-MBA,
MD-MPh, MD-JD, MD-PhD) which is required for certain areas
(administration, research, etc) and can add 1-2 years to med school.
Age 25-28
PA - working
NP - working at 80-100K per year
MD - doing residency and earning 50-60K per year while working
50-80 hrs per week --> please note that this is bare minimum of
residency for physicians and that the average residency is actually 4
years and some of the surgery programs are 5-7 years (some academic
centers require residents to take a year off clinical training and do
research work and get publications)
Age 29
PA - working
NP - working, salary is probably ~100K per year at this point
MD - starts work, although > 70% will do a "fellowship" which is
an advanced residency that lasts 1-3 years (ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for
some of the specialized fields) where salary 65-80 K per year
(comparable to senior RN or newly-minted NP)
In reality the MD will probably be 31-32 before he/she actually
starts working. The NP will have already earned over $300K and the CRNA
has earned over $400K at this point.
A primary care doctor's salary is comparable to CRNA, so a primary
care doc will NEVER catch-up to the CRNA in terms of money, but this
primary care doc should surpass the NP in terms of $$$ earned sometime
in the late 30's or early 40's.
A specialist, who can earn over 250K (if they're investing their
money and/or they have administrative duties at their hospital/clinic
they can earn upwards of $500K) will surpass the NP in his late 30's and
the CRNA in his early 40's.
As you told the young man: Go the NP route unless you plan to
specialize, become an administrator, or really have an calling to be a
doctor.
Lastly, for PA's and NP's who want to go to medical school to
pickup some extra training (because there are some things that only MD's
can do), most medical schools have accelerated programs that let the
PA's and NP's skip entire years of medical school. Additionally
residency would be a breeze for these folks and they would have the
opportunity to pick-up the actual nursing shifts on their weekends off.

Sit Down Money
If you are a young man looking for older man wisdom may I suggest Adam Piggott's podcast on "Sit Down Money?"
Before You Buy a Business
Though he is a sponsor of my show, I wanted to plug David Barnett here on the blog because not only is his service one many of my blog readers might use, but it is vital you do if you intend to buy a business.
Short version, THERE IS A TON OF RISK in buying a business. And you are statistically likely to LOSE MONEY on your "investment."
The solution? Simple, don't. Contact David over at Business Buyer Advantage. He was a business broker for 25 years and now runs his own show replete with blog, YouTube Channel, books, and classes you can take that for AT MOST a couple grand up front, save you from losing your 401k, RRSP or filing for bankruptcy.
Trust me, I worked in banking and beginner entrepreneurs and business owners FAIL more than they succeed because they're too damn naive and optimistic about their chances. Contact David, tell him "The Captain sent ya" and make sure you don't ruin the next decade of your life.

Where's My Sugar Mama!!!??
The only flaw in this otherwise brilliant article is that he does not account for the fact that a disproportionate percentage of women's employment is with the state, non-profits, education, HR/CSR, and outright make work jobs.
In other economic words - unsustainable.
If we have women truly equal to men in terms of employment in fields such as engineering, accounting, IT, medicine, etc. etc., then these long term shifts and changes might result in a permanent overcoming of genetic programming. But the true time stamp on this phenomenon is when governments run out of money and the economic production of the productive/economic industries can no longer produce the wealth and profits necessary to pay for the economically inefficient industries that allow for "diversity counselors," "professors," "lead facilitators," "activists," and "CSR heads." (That, or simply a more aggressive culture takes over the pansified-male country either through war or breeding, and enforces much more medieval sexual norms on society.)
When that (either) happens, the genetic-biological-and-economic clock will reset and it will go back to how nature programmed us 2 million years ago. But, by all means, keep believing women will be "manning up" and asking men out in 100 years.
