Oil Supports the Economies Leftists Are Most Proud Of
I will give a shinny nickel to any leftist or environmentalist that can explain why they love countries like Norway or they love people like Hugo Chavez, when their economies are largely based on "evil" oil.
When an ideology is not rooted in reality, it is easy to fabricate its consistency. Oil may easily be thought of as a necessary evil, or a means to an ends, for the realization of the end of human struggle (communism). The REAL problem are the capitalists, whom have coerced the world to use oil and no other energy source, which maintains their exploitation of both the proletariat AND mother earth. Capitalist efficiency at its best!
They do not choose oil because breaking hydrocarbon bonds is so easy (ever light a fire to gasoline?) And the energy released so massive (see: hollywood action movie) that it has allowed the most productive and material prosperous era in human history by enabling technologies which can master its intense energy. They do not choose oil because this miracle discovery is so abundant and easy to manipulate that no other alternatives compare to its price. No, oil is chosen because it maintains human struggle, and human oppression, centered about the means of production and the metaphysical nature of material itself. If we abolish oil, we abolish human misery and realize utopia. Green energy FTW!
I'm living in Norway and I'd like to note that our economy is not largely based on oil. The Norwegian government has a rule not to spend more than 4% of the oil fund a year, which is roughly the return on investment of the fund, so the total amount of capital will increase with oil extraction and remain constant afterwards, meaning it's to help future generations indefinitely by a small amount.
Agreed Erik, but when the oil is sold that is still accounted for as GDP in the national income accounts (unless they're doing something different over there).

See? Maintaining delusional consistency is easy.

ReplyDeleteBecause natural resource extraction is the only way for an economy run on left-wing principles to succeed.
ReplyDelete"Shinny"? Kinda like "shitty"?
ReplyDeleteThey also like Sweden. So perhaps you could say oil OR a northern european citizenry.
ReplyDeleteFunny how communist states condemn capitalism, and yet they depend on capitalists to subsidize their programs.
