That's one of the great paradoxes living here in the Great White North,
that you can't find BOTH looks and smarts.
It's almost like setting up a character for D&D or a video game and you're only alloted a certain amount of points to allocate to looks, charisma, intelligence, wisdom, strength, etc. etc.
So you know if the girl is super attractive, then you're pretty sure she's super dumb simply because before she was born she put all her points into looks.
But I may have found the cure for what ails many-o-American men; Iceland.
It's the only country where the women score higher than men in not only reading/social sciences, BUT ALSO MATH according to a study put out by the OECD.
Alas, it may not be impossible to have looks and intelligence.

What you fail to realize, Cap'n, is that many men are completely freaked out (and turned off) by smart women. After you get dumped for being a brain enough times, you learn to tone it down, until you get to the point where the whole concept cheeses you off and you decide that you'd rather not date than be untrue to yourself any longer.
Plus you have no female friends, because most of them are morons.
It's a pretty sad state of affairs.

Big Sis,
While I can certainly sympathize, however, I couldn't disagree more with your approach.
I learned a long time ago that it doesn't work not being yourself.
I'm an arrogant, cocky ass that is proud of what I've accomplished. After having several girls sit me down and say, "you know, you really ought to do X,Y, and Z. and people don't like it when you do this, and people dont liek it when you do that."
Tried it for about 6 months, didn't work.
Furthermore, it freaked everybody out. And they realized, all shortcomings aside, they like the good ol' Cappy Cap because he was good ol' loud, obnoxious, in your face Cappy Cap. not Bob Bobson the Ambercrombie and Fitch-weating conformist who has no personality but gets along OK with everybody.
same thing with you, you'll run into ordinary people if you try to be ordinary and dumb down your intelligence. And while you may upset or rub guys the wrong way, screw 'em, life's too short to conform and worry what average people think (let alone insecure guys). Besides which, if you be the Big Sis, then you'll find people who like the Big Sis and you don't have to act like anybody, but the Big Sis.
Thus concludes my pscyhology class.
Exactly. I decided that I would rather not date than date guys that thought I was too smart.
I figured, somebody will appreciate it.
Can you hear the crickets chirping?
TBS
Yes, same crickets that chirp when a girl asks me what I do and I say;
"I'm an economist that dances and plays video games and likes reading about WWII."
But then if I lie and say,
"I'm a drug-dealing bad boy with 2 illegitimate kids and that probably won't return your calls and cheat on you."
Then they ask for my number.
Gotcha! You liar. You so do NOT like reading about WWII, it's not even funny! Here's your friend, a repository of books on the subject, and you have never, EVER asked to borrow any of them.
Bum.
"So you know if the girl is super attractive, then you're pretty sure she's super dumb simply because before she was born she put all her points into looks."
BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!! Funniest thing i've read all week :)
I agree Cap'n - who wants to be a conformist anyway? Better to be an idiot who puts up a big picture of himself right at the top of his website i reckon...
I think reading about that Iceland thing, and it turns out it's not because the Icelandic women are super-smart, but that the Icelandic men really are slackasses when it comes to school.
Also, I never seemed to have a problem getting dates when I was on the market. Geeky gals seem to score well amongst the geeks, and many of them are undervalued properties. I do remember some of the smart physically attractive chicks playing dumb because they didn't want a geeky guy. Eh, it reduced my competition, so what did I care?
DMK, You got me. Dated my fair share of Asians in college and a Pakistani girl once.
Frank, don't forget the David Hasselhoff thing though, you have the David Hasselhoff thing going
meep, don't ruin it for me! It's because they're really smart!!!!!
"I'm an economist that dances and plays video games and likes reading about WWII."
Two out of three isn't bad, but I'm going to blow the whistle on the third one here. To my knowledge, you may like watching MOVIES about World War II, but I have never, not once, heard you ask Yours Truly for any source that can be considered remotely reliable on the Second World War beyond "Wait! You didn't hear how World War Two ended! *pause* WE WON!".
Sorry, Captain, but the Web don't count this time. Gotta be books, and no, they can't be pop-ups.
I found an article a while ago that I think you'll like, Captain. The author analyze a few demographic variables with some basic calculus to determine the practical size of his dating pool, using his conclusions to show why he does not currently have a girlfriend and probably never will. It struck a chord with me.

The data is a bit old, but since the analysis is based upon standard deviations in the first place and the key factor is the ratio of possible candidates to those who did not make the cut, the final conclusions are still valid.
