Oh wow.
I get job updates from a website called Indeed.com. And this one came in the mail.
There are two things horribly appalling about this.
One, the fact there is a FREAKING COLLEGE CLASS ON HOW TO READ
Two, even MORE APPALLING IS YOU NEED YOUR EFFING MASTERS DEGREE TO TEACH THE DAMN CLASS!
Wow, just all I can say is effing wow.

"Preferred Qualifications:

* Ph.D. in reading"...
Eh. It says you need a Ph.D. to teach the class...
Yeah, seems kind of retarded.
"The Reading Program is designed to help students develop study and academic skills that contribute to success in college and the workplace."
So it looks like it's likely about teaching people how to study, although I'm certain that there will be plenty of borderline illiterates present.
Snort.. just head over to education related jobs, you'll be _amazed_...
Mind you business ads can be a joke too. "Must have PhD in Y, X years of experience and be intereted in a entry level job that pays bugger all in a high cost urban area."
Oi! we cannot find qualified candudates!
Reminds me of all the stupid articles about the "shortage of engineers" in the US. And yet, somehow, the salaries don't rise and those staff in companies get treated just mildly better than line workers. Funny how there's a shortage and how many enginneers take MBA's and escape the ghetto.
You must qualify for a Ph.D. in Video Gaming.
What was the title of your dissertation?

Mine was titled, "Internet Spaceships are Serious Business: How EVE Online Turns Everyone Into Machiavellian Assholes."
True story. :)
It's no surprise to me since I've returned to school and found that so-called "higher education" is not the lofty pursuit that I once imagined. As a matter of fact, I just blogged a cute little rant from the front lines...so to speak. Have a read.
