While there are some that need extensive therapy to overcome some real problems that affect their lives and others, I find it tough to believe an entire industry can survive on that small number of patients.
For the most part, the average person that I know that goes to therapy, or has gone to therapy, needed nothing more then "Stop It!" For the most part, the people I know that have been in therapy are there because they want someone to tell them their problems are not their fault, and thus are outside of their control.
And, therapists have built an entire industry out of encouraging that behavior,

This is probably more effective therapy than most psychologists deliver.
It's the very condensed form of rational cognitive therapy.
