I got a chit house Bushmaster for myself. Fact is I am probably the only fella on earth that hasn't modded his AR15. That gun is damn near perfect right out of the box.
I'm all jealous, Cappy. I just spent $750 on a Gloc 19, IWB holster and ammunition...So my bank account is a little low right right now and I have Obama induced AR-fever (a bad combination).
Nice! You must have gotten the last one, this is what I got for my Glock 19: http://ninetymilesfromtyranny.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-irishman-isnt-only-one-who-got.html
Might chose to upgrade to an Aimpoint. Not sure which red dot you had on top, but odds are it isn't as durable. Also, backup iron sights are generally considered a good idea. Well, some people may never need backup irons, but my Murphyonic field seems to require them.
Boy am I glad I picked up an AR, dies, powder, primers, bullets, and a shit-ton of loaded ammo well before the election.
Didn't you have an AR already, CC? Not that there's anything wrong with owning two. Well, unless you're neglecting other cool guns to do it. Jesus would never forgive me for buying a second AR if I didn't get a 1911 and a Smith K-22 first. And a J frame. Can you believe I don't own a J frame? Or a boltie. Or a lever gun.
One of my neighbors was shooting a semi-auto on Sunday - I think he was practicing. Didn't see the firearm so I don't know if was a rifle or a pistol, just heard groups of 8 shots at about a second between them.
Red Dot? Meh. I have one of these on my Wyndham AR; I recommend strongly (though it does cost more than your gun did :)). As for the iron sights cavepilot suggested, I use something like this (Amazon has a selection to choose from).
AR's are fun guns to shoot and easy-peasy to work on. Good luck getting any P-Mags for it any time soon though. :)
I built an AR-15 a few years ago and then wanted to show it to my neighbor. He and his wife moved up from California a couple years before that and we became friends. I just picked up the rifle, walked across the street, and knocked on his door. He loves telling that story to his California friends.
Ditto on backup iron sights. Batteries are not to be relied on.
And for Oz, if you choose the Garand you have to keep shoving cartridges in through the top. Get an M-14!
Yes, I have two now. The first was when Obama was elected the first time and then this AR was the second time he got elected. The first one I cherished greatly, but now since it has iron sites I decided it would be the investment gun and not the actual gun. Can really use two AR 15's, but they make a better investment than a 401k.
when a gun goes off, thats the sound of liberty. happy new year, Cap. looks like you got a very nice xmas present. you must have been a really good boy. on my side, santa is bringing me a handgun, just getting the paperwork done. saving for a remington 700 in .308 and a skorpion evo. then a MR1 in .556 is on the list. ar15 are too rare, or expensive here. happy new year from switzerland.
Hey Cap What we have right now in the gun world is a classic bubble. Why can't we use our knowledge of history and human economic behavior to make money off of this situation? Check out Freedom Munitions and USAAmmo, both out of stock for .223 right now but USA still has hi-cap mags at decent prices. If you were to buy (for example) $1K worth you'd be able to sell them for at least 2.5K by... Jan 21st. With simple market analysis and discipline this situation everyone's panicing about can be instead a great platform for profit. Prices will not go down before the Inauguration and demand is gonna rise expotentially as panic increases. Congrats on your purchase- just returning the economic analysis- thanks Dave
Nice AR-15. Welcome to the club. Now make sure you have at least 10 thirty round magazines and several thousand rounds of ammunition. Better yet, get 3000 rounds of ammunition so you have enough to take a good tactical carbine class.
Hey y'all, why get a bunch of guns that all take different loads. How will you keep up your inventory?
Isn't it better to settle on one or two types of ammo to be fired. Perhaps the most common 9 mm for pistols and .223 for long guns?
In a pinch you will only be able to carry and use one or two firearms anyway. If you are lucky you may survive for short time if there is every a revolution or civil war.
Whatever happens, keep it simple and keep lots of it stored up.
And it would also be smart not to advertise where and what you have. Good Lord ....

Doesn't that thing shoot those pansy NATO caliber rounds? A M1 Garand is more of a real man's gun :-)
Seriously though, I recommend taking an Appleseed course to learn how to shoot accurately out to 500 yards. http://appleseedinfo.org

It was also a self-santa gift...
I hope you didn't pay 9 gazillion dollars for it like the panicers are.
And +5 to the recommendation about Appleseed. It's excellent.
Oh, and one more thing. I'm told that every time someone buys an AR, Sarah Brady cries. And every time Sarah Brady cries, and angel gets its wings.
Tape some magazines together (in a certain way) to re-load faster.
Congratulations on the new addition to your family. Feed her well and take her out often, and she'll take care of you when you need her.
... and that's far more that can be said about most women.
Cappy -

Congratulations. You are now a man.
And you are scaring the crap out of liberals in your neighborhood. Double plus good.

So many guns, so little money...

One neighbor has his own pistol range.
I have firearms envy.

Aww, so cute with your new gun - just like my hubby and his new Beretta! LOL

Nice, Captain! Did you have trouble finding it?
I got my husband a custom built AR 5.45x39mm with a red dot/green dot scope for Christmas. I posted a picture of it on my blog.
Happy New Year to you, dear Captain!

Then we'll talk aboot the latest 2013 fad, reloading.....
Its seeing stuff like this that I hate living in Australia.
