So "whiskey" means "the water of life?" Interesting! Frank Herbert must've been an Irish Whiskey fan.
The best St. Patrick's Day celebration is in Savannah, Georgia. It's the second-largest outside of New York City.
I've been there twice - both times on a Saturday - seven years apart. Weekend St. Patrick's Days in Savannah are absolutely insane like Mardi Gras.
If you want to enjoy it a bit more subdued, go when SPD falls in the middle of the week.
Savannah is a lovely city with great food and beautiful scenery. Read "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" before you go, and see if you can find all the places in the book.
Stay at a bed and breakfast. If you are planning to go for SPD, try to reserve your room 6 months to a year in advance.
Eat at Mrs. Wilkes for breakfast or lunch! It's family style southern cooking. But expect a 45 minute to an hour wait.
The town is relatively safe, but not immune from crime so don't act like a stupid tourist, even if you are one.
If you have time, take a trip out to the lighthouse and beach at Tybee Island or visit Charleston, SC.
Do not under any circumstances order a "Black and Tan" at the Irish Pub. It's called a "Half and Half."
Guinness is supposed to be consumed at room temperature.
Learn how to eat crawdads before you go there. You don't want to embarrass yourself like I did.

O captain, my captain, please don't forget Bushmill's! 2008 is their 400th anniversary.
