I saw this on my Facebook feed and after an unthinking and visceral reaction against it, with further thought I think it's actually quite brilliant and a sad testament that such a book is needed in society.
Imagine the near future: Outside a custody hearing, several hundred men with long beards gather for a prayer meeting. "In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful, we pray that Judge Susan H. Buckner-Stopes, who lives at 1160 Palmdale Circle in Del Boca Vista, makes the correct decision in the custody hearing of our brother in the faith Thomas Ball."
And for the third time that day, a white man who reverted to Islam a month ago gets full custody, no visitation, zero alimony, and is free to remarry.
A book that would've been fully appropriate in the Stalinist USSR, circa 1937. That should tell us something about the state of Amerika today. I guess the silver lining (if you can call it that) to this whole thing is that as more and more people are locked up for non-crimes (the vast majority of arrests and incarceration today), then arrest and incarceration loses any stigma it might have once held.

This is pretty sad stuff. If you could provide insight on this, that would be awesome. Thanks!
That is the saddest thing I have seen in a long time.

I'll give you six to one odds I can guess the day of the week this book's illustrator was born on.
