Rantings and tirades of a frustrated economist.
Yeah, so what?Millennials think they can have mommy or daddy or debt buy them seat time...then upon graduating with that magnificent degree in Africana studies or queer studies or clitoris studies they can leapfrog ahead of workers who've been hauling ass in the job market for the past 40 years. http://theweek.com/articles/629256/how-insane-work-hours-became-mark-american-privilegeFuck all college students. And yeah, I've got a Ph.D., Generation Jones, sick of Boomers myself, but also sick of categorical whining.
If you are interested in history, look to the many very good history podcasts. I listen to The British History Podcast, which is probably better than the majority of college courses. Sure, the creator is not rushing through the material. After several years, he's just up to 900 CE, spending a lot of time on a period mostly ignored by professors due to the Victorian biases and the thinness of sources compared to the Roman period or the post-Norman Conquest period. Shocker, Vikings were a bit liberal with the burning of records. All for free, unless you choose to support the effort for $5/month. There are other podcasts on other histories. As for English majors, or any of the Humanities, it would be wise to consider this from Ludwig von Mises:"In the precapitalistic ages writing was an unremunerative art. Blacksmiths and shoemakers could make a living, but authors could not. Writing was a liberal art, a hobby, but not a profession. It was a noble pursuit of wealthy people, of kings, grandees and statesmen, of patricians and other gentlemen of independent means. It was practiced in spare tim e by bishops and monks, university teachers and soldiers. The penniless man whom an irresistible impulse prompted to write had first to secure some source of revenue other than authorship."Mises, Ludwig von. The Anti-Capitalistic MentalitySadly, the professors argue so vehemently against the very thing, capitalism, that enables them to spend their lives on their hobbies.
 This is too rich. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/national/longterm/unabomber/manifesto.text.htm12. Those who are most sensitive about “politically incorrect” terminology are not the average black ghetto- dweller, Asian immigrant, abused woman or disabled person, but a minority of activists, many of whom do not even belong to any “oppressed” group but come from privileged strata of society. Political correctness has its stronghold among university professors, who have secure employment with comfortable salaries, and the majority of whom are heterosexual white males from middle- to upper-middle-class families.15. Leftists tend to hate anything that has an image of being strong, good and successful. They hate America, they hate Western civilization, they hate white males, they hate rationality. The reasons that leftists give for hating the West, etc. clearly do not correspond with their real motives. They SAY they hate the West because it is warlike, imperialistic, sexist, ethnocentric and so forth, but where these same faults appear in socialist countries or in primitive cultures, the leftist finds excuses for them, or at best he GRUDGINGLY admits that they exist; whereas he ENTHUSIASTICALLY points out (and often greatly exaggerates) these faults where they appear in Western civilization. Thus it is clear that these faults are not the leftist’s real motive for hating America and the West. He hates America and the West because they are strong and successful.
