Barry White and Sean Connery

do not adjust their speech for California girls.

And that is why they get more respect from society and more play from the ladies.

Great Funk & Wagnall's. It's not a "dialect", Beebs, it's an affectation. Like lisping in West Hollywood or high-water pants in New Hipster York. It's not even a friggin' accent. People who do not understand the basics of language should not write about even the basics of language.

Victor Davis Hanson wrote about the same subject a few years ago. He said that something has happened to the American male voice. As evidence he points to the films of the 50's and 60's with people like Greg Peck and William Holden.

I notice George Clooney doesn't do that, either.

Can't imagine Gregory Peck, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, or even David Niven talking like that.

Captain, I've lived in Western Australia for the past 29 years, young women(girls)used to use that affectation years ago but I haven't heard it recently. I thought at first it was standard here but I have come to realise it was affected, but from where? California. Baywatch watching maybe. Seems to me it is an era type of thing. I haven't heard many young men use it either but a few do, mainly effeminate guys.

Barry White. Yup, he's (indirectly) responsible for my two children.
Husband+Barry White+wine=children in my house!
No sissy-sounding guy would've done a thing for me, regardless of the amount of wine consumed!
