A mayor of Toronto in the early years of the 20th century was a notorious gay, which officially was bad. He also attracted lots of media (newspaper) attention. He said, and said often, "I don't care what they write about me, just as long as they spell my name right".
Miley Ray Cirus....lame media-manufactured celebrity. But she did make Mad Magazine's Year end list of stupidest things of 2013! (something about sticking her tongue out and going to third base with a giant foam finger on TV).
And no snickering from the peanut gallery. While Mad has taken a turn to the left since the big guy with the beard passed on, they still manage to be right more often than not.
