Your post accurately outlines the problem expressed in the first post's sentiment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm talking from how the situation is here in Europe, the funding for your radio stations might be arranged differently.

Our radio stations are state funded, that is the frequencies are distributed to the stations depending on which radio station has more members, rather than being sold to the highest bidder. This is subsidy no #1.
Subsidy no #2 is tax money for actually hosting and running a radio station.

Thus, if I'm correct, he's received a lot of tax money, and paid a million a year back, awesome.

The net result is still teh suck.

The only way people, in this system of state-sponsored 'capitalism' seem get rich is by taxing others. Either trough a state granted monopoly (Microsoft, suing every other company out of existence, see also: patent laws), or by state subsidies (radio, television).

Wake the fuck up and smell the napalm.

It's possible that the first commenter at 10:54 might have been referring to the subject of Adam Carolla's immortal rant. The first commenter was not specific about whom he considers to be "fat boomer parasites".

Here comes the clue by 4.

Most radio stations in the US are funded by paid commercial advertising. They have to attract enough listeners to make it worthwhile for companies to buy ads. Carolla was on such a station.

Other stations are funded by a non-profit group, usually a university (some state run, some not) or a religious group.

Finally, a very small selection of stations are members of a government funded network although they get a lot of ads...I'm sorry, acknowledgement of donations from corporations...and donations from listeners. The proportion is subject to argument due to several stops of laundering for much of the gov't money.

There are some donations only community stations. I've done a show (Dark Etiquette) on one of these and a college station.

So, no, he hasn't received a ton of taxpayer money. Even if the station was totally government paid for based on my time at a community station it costs much less than $1million/year to run a station...we got by on about $75thousand and that included buying about a third of our programming.

Thanks for that clarification, it actually sounds like the USA's economy might be salvageable. Over here our public stations receive millions in subsidies, so do newspapers and other media by the way.

Our Politburo needs a way to spread it's message.

I studied aeronautical engineering at the air force academy (didn't commission due to medical crap), got my master's in aeronautical science from Embry Riddle (4.0 gpa), still don't have a job. My little sister is finishing up her degree in communications at ASU and she already has a job lined up with a radio company. Obviously I didn't work hard enough.
