Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?

Short answer?  Yes.

This is why I also leave the phone at home when going out and do not do social media on weekends, no matter how vital to my super awesome online media empire.

Smartphones do not only affect the younger generation. Middle aged people also live glued to their mobile phones. Most of the symptoms outlined in this article (less sleep, less dating, less sex, less happiness) all apply to the older generation as well, and it is mostly because of the cellphone usage.

I keep my phone in an RF-proof faraday bag, turned off, in the car for emergencies.

I refuse to wear an electronic leash.

That is not the only generation it has destroyed. I remember flying half way across the country with a meeting with VP's and Dir's. About half way thru the presentation I noticed that nobody was watching the presenter. Everybody's head was up the ass of their respective blackberry.

So I have always had a rule ever since. If a vendor team member every does the 'Excuse me I have to step out, very important call...' bit I immediately cancel the meeting. If it happens a second time by the same vendor team they are excluded from bidding.
