The Negative Externalities of Skinny Jeans

There are tons of girls who could be passably pretty, but are hideous because they have no idea how to dress. Skinny jeans are a perfect example of that. Tight low rider jeans and tank tops are really hot - on one woman in 1000. The rest could still be pretty if they just knew how to dress. - minuteman

The tax on water run-off from roofs and parking lots is probably based on "externalities." I encountered this in Greensboro in the '80s.

I agree, but with the addition of spanx and yoga pants worn by fat people.

As a sane and logic person, its incredibly disconcerting to see fat people in tights. Why. Because your gut instinct is to assume that they are not sane and logical, but are deluded into thinking its socially ok to flaunt their crotch flab rolls.

So not only is the image graphically repugnant, but it is mentally repugnant- it makes you question your social surroundings as if you are wrong for watching your health and not overindulging. Depression results from not knowing if you fit in with the tribe anymore.

They are called skinny jeans because you have to be skinny to wear them, not because wearing them will make you look skinny.

Is there a term for negative externalities caused by the compensation of negative externalities? 2nd hand externalities, perhaps? If so, as an 33-yo underemployed male can I file a claim or suit against somebody. I strongly suspect that my underemployment may be caused in some part by compensating for 1st-hand negative externalities.

OK, I'm officially an old fart. In my experience, "skinny jeans" were the pre-pregnancy pants my (now ex-) wives tried to get back into the day after the baby was born. I gather this is something different.

Oh Cappy...I knew we'd disagree on something eventually. I love wearing skinny jeans. Other jeans just don't show off my super awesome boots the same way.

As for wearing tights as pants, now that's messed up! I don't care who you are, that is unacceptable. Skinny jeans, tights, yoga pants, etc. are also completely unacceptable for fat people.

I will say this:

If you're a very in-shape college girl and want to wear yoga pants, go nuts. Some girls genuinely do have sufficiently fit bodies to make that work. But yoga pants and skinny jeans are for women what curls with high-weight dumbbells are for men: you need to be pretty fit for them, and as soon as you try to pull it off it will be obvious to everyone around you whether you can or not.

Milton Friedman used the term "externality." He's a communist?
