Thanks to everybody who donated. You have to keep in mind she was not going to go crazy because I was there and we are "sworn enemies" so the reaction was a bit subdued.
Yes, "Varmint" and the Captain are sworn "enemies," but what the Captain did not know was that we had just returned from the burn site where we had picked up sections of the boys' kennels so they can be repurposed into a memento for her.
She was having a rough evening and fighting a losing battle with tears, although she would never let dear Cappy know that. I wish you all could have seen the lovely smile on her face when she saw the amount of the check. She was genuinely surprised and told me later that she saw him writing the check and thought it was going to be for "Like $20 or something."
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Not only for your donations, which truly did make my girl's day, but for your thoughts and prayers as well. It all means so much!
I'm a little late to the party, but I'm glad the Varmint has/had some good people to help her. Some people never think of tragedies like this until they happen to them. Three years ago I lost everything I owned in a fire. I didn't have the luxury of a support system to get me through it. And, three years later, I'm still fighting a running battle against the scumbag bankers trying to pad their payoff with junk fees. Glad this is one battle the Varmint doesn't have to fight.
