You are a funny dude! As one working on a book (slow going what with research, a full time job, kids and all that) I agree 100% with nearly everything you said. Quality, content, promotion, fees, royalities, you're spot on.

I thought the latest version of: The Complete Guide to Self-Publishing: everything you need to know to write, publish, promote and sell your own book (by Marilyn Ross and Sue Collier) was really, really solid. That, coupled with Amazon's program (and reading about self-publishing on Amazon) you'll get where you want to get. The hard part is building an audience and word of your book. But like you said, if you don't write for profit per se, but for your own self, it doesn't really matter.

Great stuff Cappy!

Thank you Sir, for sharing your wisdom.

Sorry Captain, but Romney got pulverized by Obama, confirming your notion that we Generation Y kids shouldn't try until we're 35. I wasn't surprised quite frankly. We've had 8 years of a Republican president and the American people blindly want 8 years of an extremely progressive president. At least this will give the GOP more time to fix itself and exile all those social conservatives that have given it such a poor reputation. Next election, they need to get Chris Christie to run and to have him go on more conservative talk shows to appeal to the main base. The Republicans will take the country back in 2016 after the economy collapses and heads over that fiscal cliff.

Enjoy the decline!!!!! Americans everywhere deserve it.

The Republicans started the lion's share of the housing bubble and offer no resistance whatsoever to the education bubble, and both of these are letting the white demographics slash their wrists. The party needs to go the way of the Whigs, because it is just a pointless moderate waste of time, not a true right wing party.

God I hope the Chinese are taking good notes and studying hard, what is happening to the West. Capitalism does NOT have to involve mob rule!

There was no real difference between the candidates.

Even when the Republicans had some potentially marginal control of Congress, which law or federal agency was repealed or abolished? What tax was meaningfully decreased?

The good part is that perhaps people will not be as complacent if Romney had won. Even with Bush we got the TSA and Patriot Act.

And guys like Romney (MA) and Chris Christie need to be kicked to the curb; nothing conservative about them at all.

A small number of states voted for laws to make marijuana 'more legal'. This should be interesting since the Feds have not cut anyone any slack on drugs.

Earlier this year I wrote some stuff for a notoriously difficult internet audience that was very well-received. I always meant to make a book out of it but never did.

Maybe it's time to give it a second look.
