This - implosion.
But remember social scientists, economists, and policy makers - men should NEVER be factored into your decision. Never. They're only half the population and the group that produces and innovates nearly everything in society. You don't want to factor them ever into your decision making.

good article, i'm go my own way man now; but was probably a herbivore 5 years ago; but i have had enough of twisting myself into knots for women and society. i know now that i have accomplished more than about 10% of the country and may make it to the 5% and i'm not giving that up to fit in or for some woman, she's going to have to go along with my plans or she can find someone else; i dont need women enough to give up my goals in life.
Funny you bring this up. Reminds me that some guy - John B. Calhoun - predicted it all in the 50ies by having as many mice as possible living in a confined space. His conclusion: Calhoun saw the fate of the population of mice as a metaphor for the potential fate of man. He characterized the social breakdown as a “second death”.

It's an interesting phenomenon, but I'd say it's unique to Japan, at least in the subtle aspects- Japan has always had a peasant class (today's full-time employed men) and an elite class, with the elite class divided between ruling class and militaristic, with no social mobility. With exposure to the West, the cultural creep of feminism, and a decrease in male identity, I'd say that beta herbivores are a logical conclusion when a nation has lost its' identity.
Aside from the feminization (if such is real, and not feminist slut-shaming in reverse), one sympathizes. I can't help but notice a glaring absence of Japanese red pill enthusiasts in the manosphere.
The real herbivores are the salarymen who let society and their wives harvest their time and effort for decades.
