Reminds me of all those movies where the bad guy makes someone dig their own grave at gunpoint before shooting them. Why would you do that. Just walk away if the end will be the same. Why prolong the agony?
Aaron, you've said it yourself: these guys are so in debt that they can't stand an interruption in the cash flow. 2 weeks severance for each year worked can mean 3 months or more of pay for guys that have been there a while. Show any sign of balls, and there goes all the money.
I ate a lot of shit for years to get to where I qualified for an old-time pension. I'm sure that you'd have said the same thing about me in the months leading up to retirement.
All this does is delay the crash. Cheaper help can maintain the system as it is, but they can't / don't have the knowledge to fix the real problems when they occur.
