I've been wondering if we'll see a civil war in Mexico. That's still a long way off, probably, but I'm wondering how close it might be now...

Whoops. Guess you got the article already. Anyway, please note that, as I pointed out, the J-School fellow writing this article for the AP got the century wrong for Senor Juarez (how hard is that?), and that I am predicting a possible Mexican Revolution for the new century, since there hasn't been one since 1916, as memory serves.

If my pessimism is warranted, the National Guard we have now isn't going to be nearly enough; we're going to need to start increasing numbers fast and being serious about this situation. Or we could just do what Nick Trist wanted to do in 1848, and end up annexing the whole damned place and making them all Americans in the end anyway.

Nice idea, Mahan. But you wouldn't want to have all these crazy leftist voters in your own country, wouldn't you? ;-)

Perhaps it is time to pull the army out of Iraq and sent them to the border for additional defense.

Actually, should a full-on, no-holds-barred, El-Santo-I'm-glad-you're-here Mexican civil war break out, it would not surprise me in the slightest to have military enlistment rates skyrocket, especially in the Southwest (including the NG), as Americans realize just what the implications are for that event.

To answer your question, though :], no, I certainly do NOT want those leftists in this country; they make the moonbats here look almost sane. Almost.
