The Speed of Jordan Peterson

Permit me a disclaimer so the Jordan Peterson fan boys do not come in here and flood the comments section with low-IQ non-arguments such as "clean your room" and "make your bed."

I like and agree with nearly everything Jordan Peterson says.  That man is very intelligent, is very brave for standing up to not only academia, but the tyrannical elements within the Canadian government, and he is very eloquent.  He is a very large net asset to society and the world, and we should be thankful the man exists.  The world is much better off with Jordan Peterson in it.

There is only ONE complaint I have about the man (and if you're gearing up to tell me to "make my bed" please reread the paragraph above), and that is the man is slow.

Not slow in a mental sense or slow on the uptake of street smarts, but the man is just late to the party.  It took the confluence of

1.  The Canadian government passing bill C 16
2.  Dr. Peterson being in academia at the time
3.  While the SJW mental illness had infected academia

to create the environment/drama to launch him to prominence within non-leftist spheres of the internet.

But just because he was the right man at the right place at the right time doesn't mean people weren't onto the tyrannical left's agenda of oppressing its people via thought, academia brainwashing, or outright legislation.  This battle has been going on LOOOOOONG before Peterson showed up and had the sheeple of society dared to be intellectually independent as they claim to be, society would have been hip to the threat the left poses and been able to do something about it DECADES ago.

Unfortunately, since society insisted on being asleep at the wheel this has cost two full generations a life of hell in terms of worthless degrees, trillions in student loans, and crippled financial futures.  The fact Jordan Peterson and society are FINALLY waking up to this now earns them a "Welcome to the Party Pal Award."

Another example, Robin Abcarian.

Like me you might have said, "Who?" because she is one of the millions of journalism majors my age floundering about the world, trying to make a living at this long-disreputed profession.  But I will tip my hat to her in one regard - she actually did some actual journalism.  She is (as far as my research tells me) the first journalist to connect and point out the incel cause-and-effect on mass shootings, murder, even terrorism.

The only problem?  This connection has existed since Columbine and has been known for almost the same 20 years since the event.  It's just NOW America's Nervous System (aka - the media) is making the connection and waking us up to it well after the Aurora shooting, Elliot Rodgers, dozens of school shootings and...oh...the hundreds of lives that were lost.  Now these precious journalism-degree-laden "thought-leaders" can't write enough articles about "incels" and maybe (in another twenty years) might start to advocate nuclear families with strong, masculine, PRESENT fathers instead of government checks as a solution to incel-inspired shootings (though I'm not holding my breath).  And for that, the entire American "journalism" industry is also awarded a "Welcome to the Party Pal Award."

Finally, there's Ellen Ruppel Shell.

Again, like Ms. Abcarian, you might say "who?" because she is also very common.  One of the millions of liberal arts professors flailing about society.  However, on May 16th, 2018, in a BRILLIANT stroke of genius and true independent thought that ONLY academics are capable of, she posed the question in a New York Times opinion piece that....

(are you ready for it?)
(you better be sitting down)
(no, really dude, this is so brilliant only a liberal arts professor has the brains to make such a rare and insightful observation)

wondered if college may not be worth it anymore!

I KNOW!!!  Right???  Check out the intellectual balls on this lady!  Amirite?

Mockery set aside, like Peterson and Abcarian, you just have to sit there with your mouth agape.

NOW you think college degrees are overpriced?

And not only that, but I couldn't help but notice Ms. Shell (I refuse to call her a professor) is 66 year old professor in a worthless field.  So you admit you've been overcharging your students for your worthless classes all this time??  It sure is convenient that Ms. Shell made this observation right at retirement age.  Perhaps Phillip Morris will also admit its product destroys its customers before it files for bankruptcy.

The point is, very much like Jordan Peterson, it only took this woman 66 years of life to come to the conclusion that paying $75,000 for a "Bachelors in Communications" may not be worth it.  And for that, she too is given the coveted "Welcome to the Party Pal Award."

Now I could go on citing examples of obvious problems with obvious solutions that presupposed western and American intellectuals should have identified ages ago. I can continue to mock them and ridicule them in the hopes they might actually start thinking independently and critically about the real threats and costs these societal problems cause.  But the larger point of this post is to point out that America and society in general just don't have the time for our pre-supposed thought leaders to be so slow on the draw.  We don't have the time for journalists, professors, academics, media personalities, and politicians to take TWO FREAKING DECADES to tell us that degrees are worthless, sexually frustrated men from fatherless homes are bad, there's a Dotcom Bubble, there's a housing bubble, or that viral, SJW, politically correct, Orwellian tyrannical legislation will destroy our freedoms.  America's thought leaders NEED to be much better, quicker, and bolder at thinking otherwise we are going to continue to suffer mass shootings, financial bubbles, sclerotic economic growth, crippling debts, less freedom, and over over-all lower quality lives.

Unfortunately, I too was hoping the internet would free people from having to rely on others to do their thinking for them (I know it must be tiring for you intellectuals).  I thought the internet would break the intellectual monopoly colleges, academia, the media, and government hold over them. Sadly, 20 years of the internet has proven people are just as programmable sheep as ever and the majority of them still need to be told what to think.   I merely implore you thought leaders to do what you all claim to be capable of and that is be independent, intellectual, smart, forward-looking people whose brains and intelligence will not only prevent society's sheep from making spectacular mistakes, but also identify opportunities that will the vault the mindless-herd of sheep humans into greater heights into he future.

Just, for god's sake, you need to go a hell of a lot faster than the snails pace of "The Speed of Jordan Peterson."  That is, of course, unless you wanted another $1.5 trillion in worthless degree student loan debt and maybe another couple hundred dead from incel shootings.

Enjoy the decline.

Vox Days seems to have quite a bug up his arse over Jordan Peterson.

I read parts of Maps of Meaning, and found out about his strange compulsive thoughts. But at the time I mostly was just looking at what he was doing with his Jungian take on Christian theology- and it sucked, so I didn't get into it anymore.

But recently Vox Day started making me feel bad for not being severely more critical. Yes, JBP is intelligent, but he's nuts. And if you listen long enough, you will come across one of these moments, when you wonder what the hell this is all about- like the time he explained to a journalist that he would indeed use whatever pronouns some lunatic trans student wanted him to use.

What is is all about? Marketing. I do suspect it will come crashing down in some spectacular way. And then the right will be blamed despite him not being particularly right at all.

Cappy, you're 100% right, but please beware that Jordan Peterson may not be anti-globalist after all...the explanation is quite nuanced, so if you're interested watch Vox Day's series of "Darkstream" videos on Youtube from April/May of this year. He's read his books and has come up with arguments as to why Peterson actually is "approved opposition" with links to Podesta and other globalists.

Peterson's speed isn't limited by his rate of cognition. It's because he's not traveling from point A to point B; he is designing and building a scaffold for a bridge between the domain of science and the domain of Christianity--or more precisely, between the domain of physics and the domain of spirituality, using tools and concepts from the domain of information (which includes psychology). He will likely not live to see his work completed, much less put to use. But building a structure like that takes far longer than just swinging across on a rope swing. And again, he's only building the scaffold. Then the real work, building a permanent bridge based on a thorough understanding of both domains, can begin. You can tell it's only a scaffold because so much of it is wrong and shaky, but even non experts can see the general shape of the thing, it feels right, and it's providing a vocabulary.

He is controlled opposition, or if you prefer a societal safety valve put in place by the mainstream media. He wouldn't have any more of a platform than the manosphere otherwise.

He is just enough of the truth, for young men to feel like the veil is being lifted, but not enough for them to realize how they are being used, he is to divert men from places like your humble abode, heartiste, rollo, vox and others.

The manosphere is getting just big enough, the excesses of feminism and equalism bad enough, and the narrative shifting enough under everyone's feet at the moment, that they are using him to stop the ground from shifting too much.

He dances around the true nature of women, because to tell the truth on that undoes everything.

I expect this is just how history works. "Maybe Alia Iacta Est" was a common military expression hundreds of years before Caesar but his was the only one book that survived.

The value of work exists whether or not it has received appropriate recognition.

And now I need to watch Die Hard again.

It took about a lifetime for the printing press to lead to the reformation. Institutions take generations to adapt.

Meh. More academics and journalists will jump on the "glaringly obvious" wagon as it rolls down the street and safe for them to voice what the public has known for decades. They will still suck each others dicks at banquets telling each other how "courageous" they are though.

The only one I care about out of the three is Jordan Peterson, as he has the best chance of making at least some type of impact. All I can say is, "better late than never". We've all gotten in the game at some point. Some were there early, others, like Peterson, show up later, but the important thing is that he's here now.

Leftism is the biggest threat to the human species that has ever existed, even moreso than Islam and the plague. One hundred million corpses at the feet of leftism in a single century is conclusive proof. How murderous leftist movements continue to be tolerated by anyone is beyond me...

Aaron, I hate to say, but it looks like you may be a bit envious of Dr. Peterson's success and fame. Yes, he is late. But before we write him off, let's take a look at what he is - a PUBLIC person. He is (or was, before he went on likely a permanent sabbatical) a professor at a major university. He risked his livelihood. He's an anonymous/pseudonymous keyboard warrior/blogger.
I'm sure there have been other public people who had similar thoughts as Dr. Peterson, but they chose the easier path. They waited for someone else to take on the risk.

Dear August, wtf are you on about?

Dear Anonymous, Don't you think you conveniently forgot to mention the word 'extremist' at all points of your bulldust?

Get a grip buddy: you've said nothing!

Dear Turkey, how can the value of a work exist if it hasn't been recognized?

That's why they burn libraries down .....

Sigma Dave, the blog is full of piss and wind: JP never claimed to have been first.... it's almost as if the blogger never heard JP refer to all those people who came before him!

Yay, go internet !!!

Being the disagreeable sorts we are we have to find something to criticize and elevate it beyond its importance. It's what we do.

Late or not, Peterson goes way beyond just observing the left's insidious and pervasive appeal to the masses. He is uniquely qualified and, more importantly, able to articulate the why of its appeal. By combining science, religion, biology, psychology, mythology, etc, etc. with his ability for careful clear explanation he is able to show not just that leftism is dangerous but why it is dangerous. Clearly the left's end game is tyrannical and destructive to the point of genocide. We know that and yet our warnings have little effect. The danger is in the why of its appeal and the willingness of so many to come under its spell. Understand the why and maybe there's a fighting chance against it. Others have tried but no one has been as robustly effective.

What's incredible to me is that by carefully listening to his lectures he is essentially revealing the appeal is due largely to the female imperative. That too much emphasis on empathy and coddling is a direct path to leftist tyranny. Its appeal is undeniable. It may also just be unavoidable. But at least to me now thoroughly understandable.

Cappy its not a matter of timing, though that does come in play sometimes, but catalyst. Consider if you will, the American Revolution was well primed in the period. Adams was running around screaming about taxes. Franklin was printing anti-monarchy propaganda up and down the colonies. Paine was well ... being a pain. But nobody took much in the way of action till Washington threw his persona into the mix then Lexington happened and the game was afoot. Why was Washington so pivotal?

* Well heeled and respected for his business acumen.
* A known military leader.
* One of the few persons believed of a neutral political character.
* Not quite Franklin's caliber, but a known ladies man.

He was the Motivation Force of the moment.

Peterson?

* Others had warned of C16 but he and one other were willing to stand an take the fight to the commissions.
* He knew human nature and where it leads being a practicing clinical psychologist.
* Known in the Canadian university system.
* Articulate without being condescending.
* And yes slooooow.

Peterson had all the right tools and more importantly for C16 the right facts to fight the measure.

Could someone else have done it? Sure. But like the previous example, the facts and matters were seething beneath the surface not blinking in the light till Peterson opened the door for the public to see.

Peterson slow? Watch any of his interviews and the answer is yes. He is very deliberate about his words. Nor very flashy in their delivery. The question in my mind is that a reflection of him or his training as a psychologist?
