Why You Never Donate to Charity

There is no such thing as "charities."

Only scams.

There are only two I donate to : Salvation Army and Mercy Chefs. Both are tightly run ships. The rest of the appeals I get, especially the mail, end up as starter fuel for the fireplace.

A Futurama-style free suicide booth charity would be worth donating to.

The huge charities like United Way, American Cancer Society, and NPR, are all in existence for their own perpetuation. Their top heavy managements are lavishly compensated. I only donate to smaller charities where the majority of the proceeds go to the intended recipients. One of my favorites is the Farm to Consumer Foundation (www.farmtoconsumer.org). Helping small regional farms against the heavy hand of the Department of Agriculture, which is the enforcement arm of Big Ag.

I don't donate because I'm poor.

Cappy, your view in this regard is a bit too narrow. I agree that there are many charities that should be avoided, but there's also many above board organization worth supporting. I belong to one that supports active military families, and believe me it's as legit as it comes. We do great work for people that more than deserve it!!

Perhaps when you make statements like this you could be broader with your view?

Thanks!
